+409 Colorguard and Marching band are a lot harder then people make it out to be, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I have a feeling that you have band camp this week.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh my frikkin' Jesus, YES! I hate how everyone thinks it's sooo easy and stuff. If it was, I don't think we'd have a reason to sweat.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I want to hit those people who NW'd with my 6 foot flagpole.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Same.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Or knock them out with my rifle butt :P. Guard girls FTW!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Or smack their face with my sabre :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Or simultaneously do all three while also showcasing your best tosses. <3 Guardies!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Clarinet= JAVELIN :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Colorguard is my life. I hate people who say it's soooooo easy to toss a flag in the air 20 feet and catch it, or who say anyone can do that twirly thing, or call us wannabe cheerleaders. Actually, my guard mocks the cheerleaders all the time.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Heh. Me and one of my guard friends actually got in a total fight with these 8 year olds about whether or not they could twirl our flags. It was great. And our guard makes fun of the flute section.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Anonymous):Our guard makes fun of cheerleaders too :P. And the drumline. @1034743 (meysenburger): What state do you guys live in?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Iowa :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh haha. I never meet any guard girls from California :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, my guard is rather lame :/ Theres only 8 of us. haha :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha we were that way two years ago. Now we have 26 girls :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Whoahhhh. Well, we have 19 signed up for next year, but knowing us, half of them will drop out.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We were like that at first, but then our coach got fired and we got a new one and only like 2 people quit. Everyone hated our old coach.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Our coach is super nice, but we don't do anything in practice, so I suppose that's why we suck :/ But now she's preggo so we're getting a new coach D:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We had 40 girls for the marching band season. Then 2 more joined for winterguard, so for the first time in our school we had to start anor winterguard. So now we have an A class guard with 21 girls and an Open class with 19.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wow. Our director wants us to have 40 girls for next year haha. we doubled from last year, we might be able to do it again.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Right here! My guard in from CA. Lovely wind today btw...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Really? That's awesome! And I know, I had practice today, it was horrible. I almost killed myself doing a parallel. What region are you in, if you don't mind me asking?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It was so windy yesterday that our coach wouldn't even allow us to toss ANYTHING. And that was a colorguard coach talking. Weird.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you even MENTIONED the idea of not tossing in front of my coach, I think he'd have a heart attack. We had a little bit of drama last practice, and he ran to our band director cussing about us, then threatened to shut down the program...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This girl was about to toss and our coach yelled at her NOT to toss. A few minutes later, we got to go inside and learn the rest of our show, though. We know guard drama. One practice I came later(times got mixed up) and apparently in a span of 30 minutes over half the guard was pissed off at each other. Everyone was taking sides and girls were gossiping left and right. I was sooo confused when I got there. Our band directer doesn't allow cussing at all. So if our guard instructor did that, he'd probably fire her.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well my coach and band director were cussing about us in his office. A band student told me, haha. And I HATE the drama that we have. There's been pregnancy scares where the girls are stressed and cause a huge drama, and just a bunch of stupid stuff.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Our drama is usually the who makes captain, who flirted with whose boyfriend, who was gossiping about who, etc. You do learn to ignore it after a while, though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah. We got a lot better this year. Our new captain(who HAPPENS to be our coach's cousin) is the main drama now. She pretty much sucks.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Our drama is mainly girls that NEED to be he center of attention. Everyday. (And the boy dramas, but that's just life)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Any guardies from North Carolina <3 the Blue Diamonds Butterball (my nickname)

by Anonymous 4 years ago

Um my school dosnt even use real rifles they use little plastic and wood things. In ROTC we use 15 pound springfeild rifles and school our color guard but the flag things kida cool i guess it looks like there surrendering.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

kinda like how with the springfields throwing just a single revolution is tricky enough, but with color guard rifles, you can throw it, take a nap, drink a couple gallons of coffee, and then come back before it finally hits the ground.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you know all this color guard stuff is a lot harded@1034722 (charlie): i tottaly agree with you why dont the man or woman up and use the real thing?????

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What the hell is colorguard?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So, is there a colorguard for band, too? Colorguard makes me think of the one in ROTC.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

All my friends that quit before they got to high school marching band have no idea. Everyone not in band think its just walking around on The feild and it's nbd. It's really intense during marching season.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

except colorgaurd is retarded, and pointless in the end

by Anonymous 13 years ago

allison..?hahah

by Anonymous 13 years ago

EXACTLY. I played flute last year, and now I do color guard. Way harder than it looks, I love it though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I do colourguard in scouts. Standing at attention for half an hour carrying a 20 pound flagpole in your hand in the middle of summer while everyone is watching you isn't a walk in the park.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Different kind of colorguard. The band kind, not ROTC. The point is still the same though :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If it's so hard and you guys are always complaining on here about it, why do you do it?! It's annoying reading people complain that something is so hard and how people don't understand... YES, I WAS in marching band. NO, it was not hard. It was extremely boring and overrated.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

if it wasnt hard then your band must have really sucked.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

An angry comment criticizing me was expected. Don't feel too special. I wasn't bad. I was average. >=P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

that wasnt an angry comment, i was stating my opinion. and actualy i feel really special. especialy sense you up'd your comment and downed mine. that shows im right.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't "up" my own comments... But yeah, I "downed" yours because I disagree with what you were saying. Also, I don't think your opinion is right, but I don't think any opinion is wrong, because it's impossible to have a right or wrong opinion.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm sorry, but wouldn't it be true to say that all bands are different? Perhaps your band just had a different style of marching, or your director was more lax about marching rules. I know that in my years of marching band, I've come home from Band Camp with feet so sore I couldn't walk. It is much harder than it looks, and I personally think we deserve to complain after what we go through. I enjoy band, but it IS hard.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I completely agree. It was stupid and boring. Not because we sucked (1st place 3AA illinois or something, look us up) it was just stupid

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I totally understand that marching band is difficult but I have trouble having any respect for colorguard. But before you hate-spam me, I will tell you that I'm biased. Our marching band is like #2 in our region, but our colorguard is terrible. So maybe it's just the fact that they suck that makes me find it useless

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not all colorguards suck though. When we're good, it's harder. And get one of your guard girls to try to teach you to toss a flag and see how easy it is :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh yess. Or try tossing a five on a sabre, turning around under it and then catching it perfectly

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Exactly haha. I love guard though :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

or toss a 5 on rifle and having the rifle come down smacking your finger fracturing it causing you to wear a splint and STILL doing a competition!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Google Pride of Cincinnati. Or Zyderco World. You'll understand

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(popcorn freak): We watched one of Pride of Cincinnatis shows in our Colorguard class. Summer of Love is amazing!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm disappointed that my band director doesn't do a true marching band. It's more like just pep band with moving around on the field. Consider yourselves lucky to actually get a real marching band. :(

by Anonymous 13 years ago

1. Colorguard is as stupid as fuck. There is no point. 2. It's not hard. I had to do it for 2 years (when I played saxaphone) and it was REALLY easy. I don't see why anyone is complaining.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Your stupid as fuck. Just because you didn't like it, doesn't make it stupid. And if you didn't think it was hard, A) You guys did easy work, or B) You thought you were good but you really sucked.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Explain the point of color guard and how we got first at state

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@1036412 (The_Chosen_One): Maybe your colorguard sucks but your band was the best in the state. If it was "stupid" to you, then the work way probably way too easy for you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wow...I remember posting this before I got my account. That was a long time ago, it's kind of wierd that it JUST got homepaged.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Colour guard is more intense and more athletic than some things schools try to pass off as sports. It's about the ability to do the work AND look good. It takes all your time. Colour guard becomes your life.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Majorette is really hard too! And not a lot of people know what it is! It takes hours and hours just to get moves and routines down! And people think its a stupid girly activity!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ah, colorguard. My life! Ha, did anyone here go to WGI 2010?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Color guard is really very hard, but all the hard work is really worth it for what you accomplish and depending on your group you can have fun while working. Color guard at my school is lot's of fun so we have like 40 people in our group and it's also fun because we have three coachs and they're all in high school. For those who say that there is no point to color guard, that's like saying that there is no point to baseball or dancing, or football, or any of those other sports people do. I also hate it when people say it's not a sport and that it's just twirling things. I have a friend who thinks that and every time she says it I want to kick her in the face, even though she's my best friend. Of course she says this because she's never really tried it but she did say that once her cousin let her play with her flag and that's her back up, but that's just playing with it, not actually doing it right. And for people who say it is stupid and pointless and too easy, maybe it's because you weren't doing very advanced work and if you say that that's not true because you got first place, maybe it's because you were only competing against like two teams and maybe those teams didn't have their act together or maybe you just won by one point that they didn't get because of not smiling and not looking up. Sorry this is so long, but I wanted to make sure that I had something for almost every point of view because I really think color guard should be appreciated!

by Anonymous 10 years ago

I do both and it is hard ive been to the emergency room twice because a sabre went through mny foot. hahahaha fun times man
