charging 4.25 for a bottle of water is a bit much too

Don't blame the theaters, blame the directors. Movie production companies force theaters to charge so much for the tickets. What happens is, theaters don't markup the ticket prices, but markup the concession so they can stay in business. That's why it's so expensive, because the production companies are so greedy.

Where i live they only cost like 10 dollars. That would be acceptable for over 2 hours of entertainment.

Yeah really, $5 for a box of candy I an get for $1? No.

Where I live a ticket is $5.50 so really not that bad. The cost of a bucket of popcorn and a coke isn't that bad either, but we usually don't buy that when we go.

I work at a movie theater ;)

I work at a movie theatre in Australia, and while ticket prices may seem high, we only gain ten percent profit. We have to charge high rates for concessions because our overheads are huge - think about it. We have huge complexes, dozens of seats, toilets, and floor space all which has to be maintained. If concessions were not so high most movie theatres would be out of business and the ones that stay in business would be able to charge whatever the wanted to. Its annoying, but that's the way it is.

Yeah you see, my local theater just got competition because a better theater even closer to my house opened up. So the older theater jacked their ticket prices down to three fitty, but their food and candy prices went soaring through the roof. 20 bucks to buy a candy and a drink and a popcorn for one freaking person.
