+430 Just because a movie made a bunch of money at the box office doesn't necessarily mean it's a good movie. People who hate the movie or walked out halfway through still paid for a full ticket. It's not like you pay based on your opinion, so maybe the movie was just advertised really well, amirite?

Wrong; people would hear from other people that it's a shit movie, and not go and pay to see it, therefore it would not make so much money.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not necessarily, different people have different opinions, so they might have wanted to see for themselves

not necassarily, but usually the top movies have been great

I actually have been reading that something like this is happening. Because they're so much more available now, people are turning to indie films (I mean indie as in independent companies, not hipster movies) - and now the big companies have to step up their game - simply casting well-known actors and advertising their movies isn't working now, because people tell their friends it's a bad movie, people tweet about it, people says on Facebook and Tumblr what a bad movie it is.

I don't get why this comment is voted down, this is exactly the reason why some movies fail and others don't. People talk to eachother, look on IMDB, facebook, twitter, other forums.

In general, bad movies fizzle off quickly after opening weekend and don't make much money. Good movies continue to make good money for weeks. Sometimes a bad movie, like Spider-Man 3, makes a lot of money. But that's not because Spider-Man 3 was well-marketed (although it was), but because people liked Spider-Man 2.

Spider-Man 3 wasn't bad.

I used it as an example because I remember it getting bad word of mouth.
