Pitbulls and other "mean" dogs have a bad stereotype but it's usually the owner's fault if the dog is mean. Same with Chihuahuas.

I don't believe any living creature is born with 'evil' or cruel instincts, or wishes to have them, but that they're heavily influenced by the environment around them. It kind of saddens me to see vicious/mean domestic animals, because I wonder what could have made them behave like so.

I would agree, but my aunt's dog is very mean and very territorial, and he has never been treated badly. He is just an incredibly mean dog. Their other dog, however, is absolutely one of the sweetest dogs ever.

What about those dogs that are treated kindly but one day suddenly turn on their owners with little or no provocation? Not saying they're evil, I don't think an animal can be evil, but sometimes animals just give in to their instincts.

Yeah, animals have instincts, and if you provoke them, they come out. Ex, a friend of mine has the sweetest dog ever. But if you rub it the wrong way by doing something like pull it's tale or tease it, it will bite you. Even humans give into instinct.
