If everyone read fanfiction, the world would be much more open-minded, amirite?

Who knows?

...how exactly?

Which would come first - reading fanfiction or being open-minded?
by Anonymous12 years ago
There is absolutely no obvious correlation between those two

Open minded towards gay sex? Cause there seems to be a lot of that in fanfiction.

I hate how fanfiction always gets such a bad rap. Sure, there are a lot of crappy ones that are poorly-disguised literary porn, but there are also some stories with genuinely good prose and plot.

I fail to see why a talented writer (talented enough to keep a good prose and plot) would waste their time with fan fiction, or why someone who can just keep a basic setting using other people's characters would be considered a good writer. Building good characters is kind of a big part of being a good writer and no, just making Hermione have a crush on the little ginger girl does not count as making your own character development.

Because it's a good way to get practice. Take an established set of characters and focus on plot development and writing style. And if both the writer and readers enjoy it, how is it "a waste of time"?
