Oh, its $7.99...so basically $8? Really, why cant they just round it 1 cent up? amirite?

It looks more appealing to me (as a consumer). It may be a psychological tactic as well.

Correct.

You save ONE WHOLE CENT though!
Quit bitching.
That one cent could totes save your life.

It's just a marketing tactic. Thats why they don't add tax to the price also... so it looks cheaper.

People bitch at how expensive everything is, yet would rather everything that's $x.99 be rounded up to $(x+1).00?
Wow, people are stupid.

In Canada, (Ontario), we pay 14c tax on every dollar. So if something is 7.99 we'd only have to pay 1.12 in tax as opposed to 1.26 in tax.

It's psychological. Items that end in ".95" or ".99" are more appealing to the eye. I looked it up awhile ago.

I asked my dad this.
It's actually because when things are an even amount, cashiers didn't ring up the purchase and make change. Instead, they pocketed the money.
By lowering the price by one cent, cashiers would have to use the register get the customer change, so the sale would be recorded and the business wouldn't lose money.

I heard that it's for 'tax purposes' but I don't know how. And I've also heard that it makes consumers think it's cheaper because they see seven not eight. I dont know..
