+325 ORGANIZED religion can be pretty frustrating. I don't care what you believe for yourself, but when you have mass numbers of people in a situation of moral obligation to agree with their religious leaders, religion seeps its way into politics when there should be no crossover, amirite?

Faith is good. Religion is bad.

If you're referring to the Pope, enter the 21st century. The Pope hasn't had political influence for hundreds of years.

I agree with your statement and believe that there should be the separation, but here is the problem I find. BOTH religion and politics are at least partially if not mostly based on morals and living up to a moral standard. Therefore, they naturally overlap and cannot ever be completely separated.

The problem is when society doesn't share the exact same morals as a religion, and the religion tries to push the morals on them

Actually I disagree. The function of a government is to maintain stability, provide for its people, and maintain individual freedom. At least, that's what it's supposed to do. For instance, the military is run through the government because it provides protection for the people. Outlawing murder and theft helps to maintain stability. Other laws are based on religious morals--prop 8 would be an example of that. Prohibition, too. Both are concerned with the morals of few and provide nothing for the stability of the country, and they limit personal freedom.

Though not religious myself, just think that, wrong or not, society is based upon religion in pretty much most forms, obviously not brand new laws but the basics, and so they still can't be properly separated.

Yeah, like, people who believe in something because they were brought up that way. From early on they're thrust into their parent's religion. I think that's really unfair.
