+104 Everyone accepts that movie hackers are lame and unrealistic. But as soon as one uses a Mac (a la Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), then it suddenly makes sense. No, typing in random commands still does not work. Even in Linux and Unix. amirite?

Its very old school. I learned to use a computer by typing commands for physics at school. It used to be the only way to operate a computer

I can use a terminal very well. But in the movie in question, she types in: Find Michael Blonqkist computer. Then she types: Connect to /michaelblonqkist/laptop. Those are not valid commands in any way.

Mikael Blomkvist* Plus if you read the books, you would have read a part that says Lisbeth (the hacker) created a program to hack into people's computers so the commands are valid in her program. Anyway, it is just a book and a movie. I doubt the author and screenwriters were very interested in making it 100% believable, or even plausible for that matter, but it's a moot point.

I find it easy in Ubuntu... then again all the commands are simple enough.
