No, we should not change rules of spelling or grammar to suit the lazy or ill-educated masses. It still pisses me off that it's considered ok to pronounce the "t" in often now, because so many morons did it that it came back. That was the pronunciation, a long time ago, that was associated with not being very intelligent or educated.

Times change. Words (in the English language anyway) obtain new meanings. Some cultures form new expressions and accents. It doesn't make anyone stupid. It just means that as humans continue to evolve, we find quicker ways to communicate with each other even if it's just taking away the space between two words and making it one word.
