It's kinda funny that we're talking in one place and debating in another ha. But anyway, he's not just a "person". He is a God. Therefore He is exceptionally smarter and more powerful then any human being. He has his ways, and we won't know them unless we meet him.

this is what i never understood about the concept of god. how can a being that's not human, and surpasses everything human like and i assume isn't really even fathomable by us, have a gender? don't you think that's a bit stupid? i mean, saying god has a gender is making 'him' a person, which isn't really true, yeah?

the bible says that God created man in his image; so no it's really not stupid to call Him a He... If man is a he then that's because God was male.

i'm not talking about the bible. i'm talking about religion in general; it's a bit contradictory to talk of this divine being, but then give it human characteristics such as gender. all religions recognize that humans are sinful and extremely flawed, so saying god is a him makes 'him' flawed as well. plus, it's a bit stupid to say that god has a gender because then 'he' wouldn't be able to be totally unbiased in 'his' judgment. it doesn't make sense.

If a God exists he would be omnipresent and timeless and also space-less therefore he would not be bound by time and since he exists everywhere he doesn't really "have like a thousand little monitors to watch everyone" since he can already see everyone at an infinitesimal level.

Finally, a group of people that can have a religious discussion without bashing everyone else and claiming that there is only their way or no way after life. I want to thank you all. @580997 (rainbow 35) and many thansk to you for trying to respect another religion and be honourable. These comments prove that there are still good ppl in the world. And in my opinion, God does help everyone with everything because He is God and he can do anyting He wishes. We don't see it so much now because of all the sin in the world, but in the biblical times He talked to everyday people. Also the reason people say that God is a He is that in the bible it says that a woman should not rule over a man(I am not quoting but its in there), and if God was a woman that is the most powerful and highest spot of all time so He would be going against His own word. Sorry about such a long post.

well, you chose to do that. you choose to do whatever you do in life. but when you ask for guidance or help, God's there for that. In the example provided in the OP, athletics require commitment from the person, but God can certainly help everything to happen for his purposes.

God isn't a person, and i believe that we call God "He" because what else are we supposed to say? We don't really know who He is. But i don't understand how people don't believe that there's something big out there, you know? How could we possibly be alive right now? Something had to create us. I don't think we can just be here and that's it. But hey, that's my opinion. I know for a fact that God is real, because He has shown His love to me in countless miracles. Just sayin :)
