+263 I think it's pretty apparent that we're too reliant on technology and that we have pretty much no basic survival skills involving no helpful items of any sort (compasses, matches, etc.). amirite?

Oh, c'mon. You honestly think you'll survive in a forest with just your bare hands, and not even any clothes?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Depends, how long? Lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It depends on how I got to be naked in a forest.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why yes, you do think that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's stupid. You can't survive with NOTHING. Water? Food? Blankets? Clothes? Those are ''helpful items'', just like matches.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Your+name+(optional)): Dipshit. You get those things by yourself, not start with them. Animals (that are not humans) can do this. You clearly don't understand the post.

When you think about it, that's just how society evolves. At one point compasses and matches were the technologies that people were becoming too reliant upon.

But I think we're all getting less and less intelligent... If our ancestors wanted to find out where they were, they'd calculate the longitude/latitude, figure out where north was by looking at the stars, and all that. Now, you just ask a GPS or something. Much less skill involved. Obviously the people inventing the technologies must be intelligent, but as everyone starts relying on calculators, GPS's, computers, etc to do everything, and not having to make an effort to find out or achieve anything, we must all be just getting dumber, right?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Rainbow35):lazier perhaps, but I wouldn't say dumber. Yes we don't have to spend time to calculate such and such but we spend our time calculating more advanced things.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Its called raising the standard of human living.. Either accept it or move out into the woods with nothing, not even clothes. If you can get a result without effort why wouldn't you... This leaves room for higher training of thought and further advancement since your not wasting time getting the result Embrace progression and shut up

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How about you realize that I'm not against progression, you're just being a dipshit and not realizing that I never posted that I'm anti-progression, and I'm stating facts. Can you survive in the wild with nothing but your bare hands? No? Then I'm right, and you're wrong. Am I against progression? Oh, did I say that? No? Then you're nothing even reading the post. I'm liberal. I love progression and change. I like rights and equality. I'm obsessed with technology.

Actually, we can survive with our bare hands. We're not stupid. If we want to find North, we look at the direction in which the sun rises. If we want food, we can hunt or something. If you want to know where you are, ask locals, or if there are no locals, there are probably more important things you need to tend to. Our society develops, and so do we.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But we know all of this because of other people telling this to us. Not enough of us are strong to hunt with our bare hand, and not enough are smart enough to know how to look for water. Asking locals (assuming that they, too, are in the wild with only their bare hands) where they are, they won't know. I doubt they've named the land that you know the name of. It won't help.

Believe it or not, we're a lot stronger than we believe, and when thrown into a situation like this, who knows? We can assess our possibilities, and adrenaline kicks are always an option. Our generation just doesn't have experience. In the wilderness, survival is somewhat about luck. People, animals, everything dies-- there are no life expectancies in nature. Best of luck, Reptart.

Too bad that not every single person who uses an iphone with 743829574395 apps that does everything for them is on a higher train of thought. I use technology to a good degree but i am not depending on it. I am more connected to the earth and I am on a higher level of consciousness

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Dude thank you, I believe this too. People just dont get it, if say all cell phones stopped working people would flip a shit. They wouldnt know how to function. People are less connected to each other because of texting and they are less connected to the earth. I am for progression too but not everyone that relies on technology is progressing. You know I have a cell phone but I use it as a phone, not a tiny box that does everything for me. When I go camping I turn my phone off, I dont need it out there. All that matters is the people that I am with. People dont value the simple things anymore, like how beautiful a starry night can really be. I've probly seen more shooting stars than a lot of people my age. I know that technology is important but some people seriously take it too far, eventually people wont be doing shit for themselves they will just be attached to machines.
