+263 The most calming thing in the world is to sit by the ocean, just watching the water. Where you don't need to think about anything, not even your own existance, amirite?

When I watch the ocean, it actually provokes to think about my own existence- to think about the existence of anything, really. Its vastness makes me contemplate how small I am, and how big the world is, its hammering power makes me realize how weak and frail humans actually are, and the way the tide steadily rises and falls makes me realize how carefully and cleverly our universe was strung together and how there is a purpose for everything in our world, no matter how small and insignificant it may seem.

You don't //need// to think about anything including existence. Humans overthink things on purpose, you //choose// to worry about meaningless crap. You can always choose not to care, not just when you're by the ocean.

Why does everyone feel this overwhelming urge to be a deep, philosophical thinker. Just stop trying so hard.

Fuck no dude, open water scares the crap out of me. It's beauty isn't lost on me, however my only thought process is something like "tsunami, tsunami, tsunami, tsunami..."

Just the other day I was sitting by the ocean. And, surprisingly enough, I did not turn into Socrates. I played Do Re Mi by throwing rocks in the ocean. And it was still incredibly tranquil.

this reminds me of the epigraph of a wonderful book I read. As the tide washed in, the Dutch Tulip Man faced the ocean: "Conjoiner rejoinder poisoner concealer revelator. Look at it, rising up and rising down, taking everything with it." "What's that?" Anna asked. "Water," the Dutchman said. "Well, and time." - Peter Van Houten, An Imperial Affliction It's in the book The Fault in our Stars by John Green, and the cool part is, "An Imperial Affliction" doesn't exist. Anyways, it just made me think of that. Read the book, if you want. It's really good. DFTBA (don't forget to be awesome)
