You win

Indeed you do win. But I feel like there should be a story behind this post O.0

Aside from simply being refused entry? I'd assume the same way you can get banned from a US State. They put out a warrant for your arrest and refuse to extradite you for it, if you ever go back you go to jail. That's the way I was taught to do it at least.

Well Britian completely unjustifiably banned Michael Savage.....

He's made several homophobic and racist comments, not just in private but in public radio broadcasts. You can get jailed for that in Britain on the grounds of inciting hatred. It's completely justified.

Personally, I believe in the freedom of speech.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's completely ok but in the UK they don't have freedom of speech in quite the same way, which only really affects you if you're not only homophobic and racist but also want to spread it around. Since that's basically all it restricts, it's mostly good because it means you don't get organisations like Westboro Baptist Church being able to do whatever they want. Why would we want a known homophobic and racist coming into our country?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Because its a necessary evil. It's nice to think you could just ban all the extremists or bad people, but its a very slippery slope.

We have enough of our own. We don't need people from other countries to add to it, not if they serve no other important purpose. I'm not sure banning Savage was completely necessary or whether I'd have done it, but I think in the case of the Westboro Baptist Church members for example, it was completely necessary.

No one's arguing whether or not the Westboro Baptist Church is a good organization to be in a country, its whether or not the Government can effectively ajudicate between what can or cannot be said without being politically biased. I say there's no way.

Yeah I agree it's tricky. But what you also have to realise is that it's less problematic in the UK than in the US - there's much less debate over issues like abortion and homosexuality, and the like, so there's slightly less controversy over what constitutes reasonable free speech and what constitutes abuse.

Pretty dangerous to make an uncommon view illegal.

I'd take notes from Osama Bin Laden. He was pretty good at that.

By using British slang that may or may not have an extremely negative and dangerous connotation in the US and then getting questioned in jail for 5 hours when all you wanted to do was get hammered.
