+334 If Harry had any extra powers or anything that made him special except for his scar, we wouldn't like him because then we couldn't relate to him. The beauty of Harry Potter is the fact that he's a normal person thrown into problems by fate and chance, amirite?

...he's a wizard...he has tons of extra powers that we as humans don't.

I mean powers that normal wizards don't have .. And wizards are humans too by the way :(

Uhh .. ok :S This is my first post so I'm kinda nervous :P

Don't be. Harry Potter being your first post, I'd say you're off to a good start :)

Thank you, I thought it was a good idea :P

It was :) Technically Harry did have extra powers. He could speak Parseltoungue, and having Voldy's soul in his forhead could be considered a "Power". Spelling fail.

The ability to speak Parseltongue was given to him to Voldy through the scar. The OP said "except for the scar". Technically, Parseltongue isn't an "extra power" because it's connected to the scar.

Yeah I guess.

Not trying to be an ass or anything but how well do you relate to a wizard?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It doesn't matter what they are. The story could be about some elephant named Horton who hears a Who and you can still somewhat relate to Horton and root for him to solve the story's conflict. Otherwise, you'd be cheering for the bitchy kangaroo. The main character always has to be relatable and likable.

95% of novels are about "normal" people in abnormal situations.
