+391 It's sort of stupid that people say the little mermaid teaches kids a bad lesson. "Now that I watched the little mermaid, I'm going to go to the sea witch and sell my voice for... wait", amirite?

It's more that it teaches kids to make unbalanced sacrafices in relationships.

I don't think it teaches that lesson (unless they're talking about the book, and in the book I think the lesson is unrequited love NEVER works out) I think the lesson the movie teaches is that love (TRUE love) can overcome any obstacle. I mean, yeah Ariel gave up her fin/family/voice, but she wanted to be rid of the fin and that "world" before she even met Eric. She longed for the human world way before Eric even came in the picture. And Eric did jump into a fucking ocean for her, get on a boat, and steer it straight into a fucking giant octopus lady who was raging like a lunatic. He almost DIED for her. I mean a voice over your life? Which is the biggest price?

to be totally honest, the movie is an effing cartoon about a mermaid princess, i dont think its teaching kids anything. Maybe if you watched today you could pick up on that, but no little kid is going to.

The reason it teaches a bad message is cause she is ungrateful and even though her cave is filled with random crap she still wants more

People are supposed to encourage kids to try to achieve more. If you don't try, you'll never be happy.
