+338 What's up with all the different denominations in Christianity? I thought all you needed to be a Christian was God, love, and the Bible. Amirite?

i do agree with you but i do also know the anwser

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, we can dream

by Anonymous 13 years ago

All u need is god love and the bible to get to heaven because these are the basics of all Christian groups' beliefs.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, you need Faith. Which is believing that Jesus came here and died to cleanse the world of original sin. Without any other proof other than His Bible.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

funny thing is, he didn't. we're still full of sin, so..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, to be a Christian, you must believe and confess with your mouth that Jesus is the son of God who died on the cross for our sins.

Not knocking on christianity here. More so the people who follow it. Christianity is full of some of the most hypocritical people you'll ever meet. Thus explains why half of it makes no sense.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Christianity doesn't preach perfection, no one ever claimed we weren't hypocrites. I'm a Christian AND a hypocrite and working hard to be less hypocritical everyday

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"Not knocking on christianity here." -> "Thus explains why half of it makes no sense." Just like when people something offensive after saying "no offence", just to make it seem like they care.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Insulting/ridiculing people would work a lot better if you didn't leave words out of your sentences.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Its a typo, i'm sorry.

You must not be a Christian then. Different denominations interpret the bible different ways and have slightly different practices and traditions. You can be a Methodist Christian and not agree with some of the things a baptist preacher says.

because the different divisions throw shit in about different ways to get to heaven, such as never being jealous of anyone ever (which i know is something the catholics believe). in my point opinion, you just need to believe in God, that He has a plan for you, and that all the bad things that happen, happen for a reason. I don't even go by the Bible. Some would say 'well you need the bible', but i dont agree. i never had to go to the bible to see that God is amazing :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I totally agree, I go to a non denominational church and i love it. The rules aren't based upon what people interpret, they're based upon the Bible.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

religion doesint get you into heaven. faith does. nothing else. no mater if you sin, and what rules you make up. Jesus died for all our sins, so none hold us back. and if you believe that then you are saved.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's where you're slightly wrong. One of the major sticking points for Martin Luther was that the Catholic Church believed you needed faith AND good works to get into heaven, he only believed in faith. That was one of the biggest religious reasons Luther broke off from the Catholic church.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i'm not catholic. i'm Christian.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I never said anything about you. I was simply stating why your post isn't true. That may be what you believe but it's not true for the whole Catholic church.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well then i replace religion with Christianity.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Do you not realize Catholics are also Christians....?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm don't mean to be offensive. REALLY. I just want to understand. By you explanation, murderers and rapists can get to heaven if they believe Jesus died for their sins. Do you really mean that? I'm skeptical because in my religion, Judaism, admittance to heaven in based on your actions while living.

eh different denominations of Christianity just worship slightly different, per se Baptists and Catholics---> Catholics pray to the saints and Mary where as Baptists only pray to Christ. It's also on how your service is. Baptists sing from hymnals and Catholics sing from them too but they also sing from the Book of Common Prayer along with canticles etc. But I believe as long as you give your heart to Christ then you're saved.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, all u need is to accept Jesus, the differences between denominations r details usually. Things we should/nt do, etc.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's just like music, for instance rock. There are several genres of rock such as punk, mental, alternative, folk, grunge, and pop. They are varying types of music but they are tied together by common threads. All Christian denominations share the same core beliefs, ie Jesus died for our sins, we are all sinners, the Trinity. But we vary in practices and traditions.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There shouldn't be all these different denominations nor should there be all the fighting on who's is right and wrong.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

As people have said, there are minor differences between the denominations, but it you really want to know what there are so many different ones go read a history book on 16th century Christianity. Who knew history could actually answer logical questions?!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

nah, christians just like to make up things to convince themselves that they're gonna live forever. scared little cowards.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Different denominations interpret some things in Scripture differently. There Christians in plenty of different denominations; we just disagree on how we interpret some things. Just cause I disagree with you on some things doesn't mean I don't think you're Christian as well.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you also need to believe jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins. Forgetting that part would be very bad.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Catholicism > all

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Slightly off topic...but what i don't understand about christianity is how the bible can be changed and has changed.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thats the point of catholisism. Catholic means "universal"
