+222 People who copy other artwork and call themselves "artists" need to realize that, if they want a career in art, that's the first way to get fired/sued, amirite?

If everyone that copied artwork got sued then no one would have any money left. Pretty much all art is "borrowed" from somewhere.

I think the OP is referring to actually tracing as opposed to referencing. The latter is actually encouraged because you're more likely to get the anatomy/perspective right when you have something to look at versus drawing from your imagination. There's also a difference between being inspired by something and copying something.

Art thievery, direct tracing/copying, passing off as your own, etc. Not as reference or inspiration. Actually, full blown, art theft/copying.

If you consider music an art, then Jason Derulo, Chris Brown, and so many other rappers should be sued by now. They are not original in the least and they feel the need to steal lyrics, song clips and riffs from other ORIGINAL artists. One of the worst ones is "Ice, Ice Baby". That's Queen's riff, and only Queen's.

I do this all the time. It's good practice for when you need to learn new techniques. But not if it's for being shown and sold as your art, that's totally wrong.
