-577 We should all pay for our own university/college education, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

SCHOLARSHIPS FTW!!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Maybe if it didnt cost an assload.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Only if we're allowed to keep all of the fruits of our labors; you're talking the very basis of the Libertarian Party platform.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

we should... but chances are i'll just let my parents pay for it and feel guilty about it the rest of my life

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Do you mean absolutely no scholarships, or just the government staying out of it?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because everyone can afford it with a half-time job, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well yeah, in one year I saved up a grand and a half from working part time on minimum wage. And I don't get allowance and I have to pay for everything except rent and food. So it's not that hard.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

A grand and a half? Well that will cover my books and lab fees. Work another 4 years and you can afford one semester at a University.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not to mention also actually having to pay rent and food, and you're simply not going to get to school without a good 7-10 years at that job.

I would like to pay for my own college education but unfortunately money hasn't fallen out of the sky yet so...for now I use financial aid. :/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My mom put herself through college by waiting tables and doing flute lessons everyday of the week. It's fricking hard and a lot of stress. That's why we have college funds hellooooooo:/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In the game "Life", why do we have to pay for our own colleges and our kids' colleges as well? It's not right.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This is true.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

...... >sigh< I don't know if it's just me, but trolls just aren't what they used to be.....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How is this trolling it's a legitimate opinion

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I actually agree with this.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

hell no, if your parents pay for your college education, then you can have a better future and then you can pay for YOUR children's college education. ITS A CYCLE. but of course, if you're the first in you're family to get a college education and your family is low income, you probably have to help them out. or study really hard in High School so that you get some good scholarships, or take out some student loans.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I actually really agree with this. when i go to university, i'm going to get a student loan. if Mum wants to help out with money, then ok, i'll take it and thank her. but there's no way i'd let her pay for all of it. she wouldn't be able to afford it. and anyway, i don't want to live on hand outs from mummy and daddy. it's called independence.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Exactly.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But that's not you paying for your own education... I agree with what you're saying (it's what I'm doing), but it doesn't seem to agree with the post.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No I wasn't talking about scholarships, I meant you shouldn't rely on your parents to pay for you. It's your choice to go to college, not theirs. I'm still in school, I've got a term left of this year and then next year to go, and I've saved up a grand and a half so far just by working part time for less than a year, I don't get any allowance. Then I plan to get a student loan to pay the rest of my way through. If your parents have supported you your whole life, why should they have to keep on supporting you after you're legally an adult?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Your+name+(optional)): I agree with this a lot more than how the post is worded. It seems like we should all simply pay ourselves (meaning no parenatl help, scholarships, etc.). This is what I'm doing, working and loans. My mom helps me occasionally because she WANTS to and she wants me in school. But more recently I've chosen to take a different career path (hopefully).

When your parents are paying for your education they consider it as an ''investment'' because they need you to take care of them when they are old and on pensions. You are your parents' safest and best investment.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But why should they have to 'invest'? Shouldn't they be comfortable knowing that they've raised hard working, independent children - if they can manage to pay for their own education I'm sure they'll be able to take care of their parents.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What annoys me is teens who want freedom from their parents rules and regulations but then expect their parents to pay their way through school. I work 3 jobs and go to school and will never expect my parents to pay for anything.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So true. I try to be as independent as I can, but even at 21 I still need their help from time to time. Thankfully, they help and I plan on paying them back someday.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The government should subsidize education more fully instead of subsidizing poverty. That's the best investment any society could make.
