Marriage is traditionally a religious event, so why do gays care if they're married or not? amirite?

The voters have decided that NoSoapRadio is wrong! Vote on the post to say if you agree or disagree.

But it has become a way to receive some 1,000 plus benefits from the government. Gays deserve federal marriage. I'm gay but I don't care if our marriage is religiously recognized or not. Too much gray area on the religious thing anyway.

Marriage may or may not be religious in some cultures, but it is a legal status. It effects couples when you consider things like children (especially in same-sex relationships where one parent might not be biologically related to the kids) and assets.
