Prevents heat loss (major arteries pass through your armpits), chaffing, and apparently the sweat glands release pheromones, which make guys want to have sex with you.

Wobbufett beat me to it. The hair traps the scent and sweat stink apparently drove the prehistoric chicks coocoo-nuts. If they didn't have underarm hair back then, it would have been a lot harder to get some of that lovin, so you can thank underarm hair for your being here, smart guy!
