Even if you aren't gay, you feel a little bad for gays because they are often constantly teased and it will probably take a long time for a majority of people to just accept them the way they are, amirite?

@That's why I wore purple yesterday.

I WORE PURPLE, TOO. It's these two jerks in my class, though. They wore gray, and said it was "anti-gay," and kept pretending to be dumbfounded, asking me, "why are you wearing purple? smile " Ugh.

Honestly I've never seen a gay person teased in my school. I feel like people who aren't gay but feel bad for gays are just making the situation seem much worse than it really is.

We shouldn't "get over it". Bullying needs to stop. It doesn't matter who the victim is, they are still a victim.

More people to feel sorry for: Nerds, blacks, hispanics, orientals, women, autistics.... And the list goes on. Gay people aren't the only people being treated unfairly in the world, stop making such a big deal out of it. They can at least pretend to be normal, but some of those listed above will never be able to hide it... at least not as easily

@KickAss More people to feel sorry for: Nerds, blacks, hispanics, orientals, women, autistics.... And the list goes on. Gay...

The difference is that it's mostly acceptable to make fun of homosexuality, but not many of the other groups you listed. Except maybe nerds, but they're just fucking weird.

@soccerfan The difference is that it's mostly acceptable to make fun of homosexuality, but not many of the other groups you...

wrong. dead wrong. there are heaps of people who think its acceptable to tease the people listed and just anyone for their difference. MANY kids are bullied (not: actually bullied not just teased, everyone gets teased) a lot worse than gay kids, i've actually never seen any getting bullied. the media just likes to hype it up.

@wrong. dead wrong. there are heaps of people who think its acceptable to tease the people listed and just anyone...

First of all, I just want to clarify that I consider teasing and bullying different in that teasing is usually done in fun and not meant to hurt anyone, while bullying is meant to put down.

"Heaps of people" does not equate to society in general. The fact that we can even have a debate over whether or not homosexuals can marry is evidence of the fact that they aren't regarded as highly as the other groups listed. As a society, we(generally speaking) still dissaprove of homosexuality, regardless of our positions on the rights of homosexual individuals. As a result of this attitude, people can more freely express their hatred of homosexuals than they can express their hate of minorities or the mentally handicapped. Besides, even if they could hide being gay, they'd still be affected by hearing all the derogatory comments directed at them.

What government officials do and what the general public think are completely different things, for example: the government doesn't legalize marijuana, but there are a lot of people for it (and not just pot heads or people in my area, but in general all over the country). Officially the government might not want to allow gay marriage, but on a personal level, I'm sure most of them don't care, unless they are far right conservatives....

@KickAss What government officials do and what the general public think are completely different things, for example: the...

Oh another example Cheney, I mean that guy is as conservative as they come, right? His daughter is a lesbian.... Or at least last I heard

@KickAss Oh another example Cheney, I mean that guy is as conservative as they come, right? His daughter is a lesbian.... Or...

I didn't say anything about government officials, so your last two comments are completely irrelevant to my point. Either you completely misunderstood me or you're just stupid, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt by further clarifying my position. I meant that society in general dissaproves of homosexuality as a lifestyle, thus making it more acceptable to express hatred regarding it.

@soccerfan I didn't say anything about government officials, so your last two comments are completely irrelevant to my point...

Well, I talked about the government, because you brought up that there is a debate about gay marriage and that it isn't legal in all the states.... Who makes it legal? The everyday people?

@KickAss Well, I talked about the government, because you brought up that there is a debate about gay marriage and that it...

I meant that as a society, we have the debate over gay marriage. You brought up the government and tried to make it seem as if I was talking about it when I wasn't. You also tried to make it seem as if I was using the government as an umbrella term for the general public, which would have been impossible considering I never brought it up.

@soccerfan I meant that as a society, we have the debate over gay marriage. You brought up the government and tried to make it...

It seems that I made a lot of things that weren't seem as though they were, for that I apologize. However the fact that you were using vague language made it so I had to assume a lot of things. The thing is though, you can't generalize society the way you did, especially not on a controversial topic. Depending on where you are, there are either a lot of supporters for gay marriage or there are a lot of people against it.... There may not be an equal amount of supporters as the amount of people who disapprove, however there is still a large quantity of people for both sides of the argument.

This is like the 60's for black people, where they fought for their equal rights, even though before that time, there were a lot of people against black rights, during the movement however blacks gained a lot of support from different people.

If you consider this the gay "movement", then they should be well on their way to having their gay marriages in a couple of years.

@KickAss It seems that I made a lot of things that weren't seem as though they were, for that I apologize. However the fact...

Read more closely to what I said. I didn't say that society in general disapproves of gay marriage. I said that they generally disapprove of homosexuality, regardless of whether or not they think homosexuals should have the same rights. If you want to compare it to the civil rights movement, it would be more comparable to saying that although there were people on both sides of the issue of equal rights, the majority of the population was still racist.

@soccerfan Read more closely to what I said. I didn't say that society in general disapproves of gay marriage. I said that...

No, the majority of the south was still racist and after a while even the south became more accepting, I'm just saying that homosexuality is at a point where it's becoming well accepted by the majority of the population.

I mean you can use this post as an example: the people for it are in the 500's and the people against it aren't even near 50. If you say something against homosexuality (on this site and where I live) it's generally going to have a negative responses and if you say something positive about homosexuality (on this site and where I live) it usually gets positive responses. That's me speaking from experience

@KickAss No, the majority of the south was still racist and after a while even the south became more accepting, I'm just...

Ok, this post is about homosexual people. I'm talking about homosexuality. People are more accepting of gay people because they realize sexual orientation's not a choice, but they still aren't completely comfortable with the lifestyle.

@soccerfan Ok, this post is about homosexual people. I'm talking about homosexuality. People are more accepting of gay people...

Well of course not, people are also not completely comfortable with black people.... Nothing is ever 100%
But the thing is that homosexuality is becoming well accepted and it seems everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and saying, "Hey I love homosexuals and I defend them even though they really aren't being harassed anymore!" It's like beating a dead horse.

@Tater Im not making a big deal out of it. This post is about them, not the others.

I mean everyone already feels sorry for them... and they get all the attention, while others keep getting bullied... NO ONE stands up for the others who get bullied for other reasons, but if a person is bullied for being gay, then everyone is like, what the fuck stop and tries to help them. I'm not saying don't help them, but there ARE other people in the world, who need someone to stand up for them
Also where I'm living gay people are accepted, but if anything happens for what ever reason to them, they make a big deal out of it, cause so much drama, and then they say it's because they're gay...

@KickAss I mean everyone already feels sorry for them... and they get all the attention, while others keep getting...

Where I live, the other groups get a lot more support than gay people. People here are opposed to bullying of any type but they'd rather not have anything to do with homosexuals.

It might have to do with where we live, southern states aren't really open minded about that kind of stuff, but then again they're not too open minded about much. I have lots of southern friends, don't get me wrong and I love them (black, white, or any other race) and I'm not saying all of them are this way, but there are a lot of them who are ignorant (not only about other people) but also about their ignorance
