+440 The idea of a commercial is stupid. People either fast forward, walk away or get horribly annoyed from TV advertisements. You might as well put up a sign that says, "I just cut your show off, buy something?", amirite?

How is it that I'm apparently the only person who's ever bought something they saw advertised on TV?...

But what would the world be without the oldspice commercials?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Perfectly fine.

*Sometimes* I pay attention to commercials, but most of the time, they're nuisances. Like the darned Degrassi commercials.

Advertisements pay for programming, pretty much. Without that revenue stream, a lot of programs and stations would end.

Statistically, it has to work or else companies wouldn't pay money to have them. It's not like they don't have tons of research teams investigating how much commercials actually do work. It may seem like you don't pay attention, but if it's a good commercial, you will watch.

You see, there was this time before DVRs. And you COULDN'T fast forward pass commercials. I know it's shocking. Also, it's the only way TV shows can pay for production and everything. Plus, if you were shopping for car insurance, are you more likely to go for some random company you've never heard of, or Geico?

They had VHS before. I do believe you can fast forward those.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not if you're watching a TV show, without having recorded it on a VHS tape.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You can't magically fast forward a live show with a DVR, either.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, but you can pause it then fast forward. You were stuck with live ti,me "back in the day."

I only watch those commercials with a little story. "HOLY CRAP. ARE THEY GONNA FIND GILBERT OR WHAT."

The system wouldn't work without commercials. I don't care that this has been said a bunch of times already I'm the mood to bitch; 1) THe commercials have to be there, without them your cable bill would be 10 times, or more, what it is. 2) When in your show would you be able to go to the bathroom without missing it? 3) There was a time before DVR. Perhaps you are young enough you don't remember? If you are you oughtn't be here, but whatever. 4) Tapes still didn't really allow you to fast-forward through commercials as you seem to think there, grammar boy. Usually I agree with you, but here, not. It's an entirely different situation, it's not live, you'd have to tape the whole thing and go back to it later, you couldn't do it the same due to the fact it could not keep recording while you watched it.
