+305 If it weren't for slaves, America probably wouldn't be here, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

y'know, or religious persecution.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You disagreed with it, because it didn't include what you were thinking? You could say y'know, or Thomas Jefferson, y'know, or George Washington, y'know or Abraham Lincoln and list every single thing that made America, the way it is now, but unfortunately you only have a limited amount of space for your post... You literally can't disagree with this, because if slaves weren't here then America (assuming it's figurative) wouldn't be here....

But America would be here with or without slaves, at least in my opinion. If the original reason that America was created didn't happen, well obviously it wouldn't be here. If the US didn't use slaves then it's still likely that the US would be here, just with a drastically changed history.

You just contradicted yourself... if it has a drastically changed history, then US would obviously NOT be here? Here, where we are now is the sum of the of the past. Whether for better or worse America would be different without slaves... although I'd say it would be for worse since slaves did the majority of the work.... The major exports of the US during slavery was cotton and tobacco? Both of which slaves were responsible for. I mean Americans made a whole lot of profit from exploitation of slaves. If US didn't have slavery then the people would have had to hire free men, who would have demanded better pay. Slaves brought in a lot of profit and eventually led to the industrial revolution. In addition to that fought as soldiers during the wars. Without slaves, there's a good chance US would have lost those wars and probably be a British colony.

No no, even if we didn't know about America, it would still technically be here.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It wouldn't be called America.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What would it be called?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

DIK.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Good argument.

IDK**

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It would be called America because that's what it was named long before.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

America comes from the name Amerigo Vaspucci. And do you mean America wouldn't be the way it is today?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

America would probably still be here, the United States on the other hand is a different story.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you said "would be a lot farther behind technologically", I'd agree. We had a whole debate in class. Our teacher called us stupid, rich, white capitalists for saying it was an economic necessity before the 1800s. We never said it was moral nor did we say we agree with slavery, we just said it was a necessity at the time and without it, America would NOT being doing well.

Where would it be?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The continent would have eventually floated off into outer space without enough weight of people to keep it down.... 4 out of 5 dentists agree with me!

LOL

Actually America would still be here because it is land in fact it is 2 continents[North America and South America]. If it wasn't for Europeans then nobody here now would be here and that would change history. If it wasn't for Europeans, slaves wouldn't be here so you are missing the people who brought them to the land.
