-178 Ok at first i was sympathetic, but I hate all those adverts about kids having to walk 5 miles every day to get water. Just move closer to the damn thing, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

u r annoying

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because people who are weakened by thirst and hunger are definitely going to pick up shop and just move. Hello, what about shelter?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Right but, they have enough energy to walk five miles every day, carrying some large quantity of water for half of it, surely walking five miles once is far less difficult, they could easily build a temporary shelter then work on making a permanent one, sure it would be inconvenient, but they would benefit massively in the long run.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're an insensitive bitch.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wow, what an asshole. You don't deserve to be on amirite.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@678290 (Animagus): Look please don't start on Me. Ok so you hate this post, fair play. But this is the only site I can be on to take my Mind off things. I've been an orphan since my mum died In 9/11 and I get bullied pretty bad at my school. So the last thing I want is to be hated on here. Look sorry :(

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Get the hell off here and go to GMH or MLIA.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'll admit that reply was pretty gay. But still, just because somebody posts an opinion you disagree with doesn't mean you rage. For fuck's sake, this is a funny post. Would you rather a Chuck Norris joke got homepaged?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I wasn't the only one who said something, why'd you single me out? I didn't post everything above her explanation.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sorry, it was nowayitsadria being a noob that made me single you out.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Orphan my arse

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wow... words cannot even begin to DESCRIBE the insensitivity this post contains. Oh and also, being an orphan is a pretty fucking shallow reason to insult people less privileged than you. You have no right.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

She didn't insult them, you moron. She made a suggestion which seems perfectly valid to me.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh my, there really is no need for personal attacks, but if that's what this is I guess I'll play along. This ignorant suggestion may seem valid to you, but that uninformed mind of yours just can't seem to wrap it's self around the fact that sub-Saharan African areas, or almost ALL African areas for that matter, are very humid. The closer you are to water all the more humid it gets, and the more malaria and west nile there is: one of the biggest killers in Africa. That and due to global warming, it's starting to rain more and that causes flooding problems. Not such a valid suggestion anymore, now is it? Douche bag.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, but in some cases it would definitely be possible to move significantly closer to water sources without increasing the risk by too much. In any case, this is a joke post.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think this post may have been a joke?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

As long as they're not flash or disruptive advertisements, I don't mind them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't understand this shitstorm. She has a very valid point.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This beyond a stupid post.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Have you ever considered that maybe they don't move because people already live in the area nearest to the water? Just sayin.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But couldn't they all be friends and live together? :P But yeah, that's a good point...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't see how this post can be insensitive.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not to sound ignorant, but this has been puzzling me for a while, why don't people who travel by car to work just move into their workplace instead of traveling for miles to get to work? Just a thought.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That doesn't even make sense. If they moved into their workplace and all the other people they work with, it'd be crowded as fuck. Then you have to take in consideration their families. Would they stay there as well? What if their significant other had a job somewhere else? Would their significant other move into their own respective workplace, as well, or quit their job, or live there also? If they lived there also, would that mean they'd have to travel to their own workplace? If so, then who decides which significant other's workplace they move into? Would the workplace have enough bathrooms/kitchens to accommodate everyone? What about kids? Wouldn't they interrupt the work? What if "work" was a job like being a garbage man or construction worker or truck driver? What then? Moving into your workplace is completely illogical..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That was a rhetorical question. A rhetorical question often urges the reader or questioned to think about what the (obvious) answer to the question may be. The answer to my rhetorical question is exactly what you pointed out with your dry, hard to understand college essay; it makes absolutely NO sense. It wasn't supposed to make sense. That's what a rhetorical question is; a stupid question for a stupid statement. It was supposed to evoke the same stupid response as this inappropriate, rude post. And if you don't know why unfortunate families in Africa shouldn't move closer to a water source, I encourage you to scroll up and read ''dude''s conversation with Courage_Wolf. I appreciate you taking the time to reply to my comment, but you missed the point entirely.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I concede. You're right.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ok, This might just be me, but generally people who move prefer to move closer to work/school etc. Now, I know it might not be possible for the people mentioned in the post to move, but I can't see why they don't...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Please scroll up and read "Dude"s argument with Courage_Wolf. It's very compelling. I hope it helps you understand.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Most times, the water they collect is out of a shallow puddle, or a very rare shallow pond, and is quickly used up. To move every time the water dried or was used up would be very inconvenient. Also, it isn't completely about children needing to walk five miles to find water; another reason those adverts show is because the water isn't clean. Granted, they could "just boil the water", assuming they had something to boil it with, but they are advertisements. I also think the Trix Rabbit should press charges against the kids for always stealing his yogurt.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Don't listen to the people who are flaming you, it's just a joke. And even if it's not a joke, you have a valid point, and people are too shellshocked to realize it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What valid point? I see no valid point.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"Problem: Water five mile away. Solution: Me move closer to water." I hate to flame, but I tried to dumb it down for you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh really now? I hate to beat a dead horse, but you can't expect ridiculously starving, impoverished people to move their entire settlements and families five miles to be closer to a well with very poor quality water. For one, with a more crowded area like around a well, there is bound to be a higher crime rate, something that they don't need. Second, instead of being ignorant and saying "why don't they get off their lazy asses and get it themselves," we could donate to the building of more wells-- sort of like MLIA did.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha thanks for sticking up for me, I get loads of shit on my posts :/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This is all ridiculous, instead of arguing about it, we should all just go to Africa and give the people food and water! ...Okay, I see how impractical that is...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Am kenyan so being 3rd world african and all,i think I can answer u,the reason they don't up and move is coz the area around the water source is already occupied so that would be trespassing/squatting in someone's land n the land they're at now is home..my grandma's farm was up the hill 7kms away from the river so we built her a borehole and pump but she still has to get water from the river when the pump doesn't work.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Suggest you educate yourself about this very real problem... 1) Seasonal Flooding 2) Not everybody can live next to water due to land use pressure (same reason all Americans don't live in Hawaii, in spite of the lovely climate and beaches) 3) Sanitation leaks would pollute drinking water 4) Topography, steep hills etc. 5) Soil may be poorer due to erosion 6) Reduce drowning risk for toddlers 7) Cloudless winter nights are colder in low lying areas.
