The accents sound very different. And you can have different accents within a country. I.E. Southern accents in the USA vs. Northern accents
The point remains that a Scottish accent IS a British accent, because Scotland IS in Great Britain. You were probably thinking of an English accent (and a posh one at that) and it's not the same thing.

Sorry if that sounded harsh, it's just kind of annoying when people say British instead of English. That's all. :)
