+168 Political commercials always try to persuade you to vote, but seriously, a lot of us just watch the commercial and go, "meh" even though the politicians are doing so much, amirite?

A lot of us aren't even voting, so... Anyway, there's lots of gullible people that believe everything the advertisements say.

I think those ads count on the sleeper effect. Studies have shown that when a persuasive message is followed by a discounting cue, people may disregard the message at first, but over time they become more persuaded by it. So a negative political ad that ends with a message saying it was paid for by the opposing party can actually be pretty effective.
