I'm sure it has something to do with the air pressure or something, I can b.s. an answer that will sound relatively decent though. But I won't...all I can think of is when divers swim upwards too fast, they get fucked up because of the pressure change. Imagine going from -1000 feet to +20,000 feet? I dunno.

You are on the right track, it has something to do with the pressure your lungs experience when they are underwater and also I think because of that, your bloodcells require a lot more oxygen. It takes at least a day for your lungs and bloodcells to return to it's usually normal state, because of you reach a height like airplanes do, there is not enough oxygen to supply your body with so you suffocate. I'm sorry if I just confused you, I really can't word it right...
