The American one is not. The American one seems to be Michael comes up with some stupid idea which people go along with. Next episode, new idea. In the British one, the people genuinely hate him, and you can see why.

I think in the first 2 seasons the US version remained faithful to the premise, but after that they took it in a new direction. In order to enjoy the US office (which I do), one has to detach themselves from the original premise laid down by Gervais. If you can do that and just enjoy it for what's there and what's going on, it's a great show. The UK version is far more gritty and real --- that's because it was supposed to make people wonder whether it was just a scripted comedy or whether it was real. Of course, the American one doesn't go so far as that, but it is funny in its own right. Both are exccellent. It's a bit like comparing a novel and a movie of the same story - they're different mediums, so just enjoy each for its own strengths, and try to stop comparing all the time

Agree with lavlav, American is funny. @courage wolf, I laughed just reading your explanation, that's how much I love the show, yes micheal has dumb ideas, but i find it funny. To each, their own opinion.. You dont have to like it.. I do.

I think it used to be really funny, but it's gone downhill since Michael left. Jim and Dwight are still awesome but Pam is annoying and whiny
