+1,006 Our generation is going to end up deaf from listening to iPods, blind from staring at screens all day, hunched over from carrying around heavy backpacks, and arthritis from typing, amirite?

or our generation can stop complaining and suck it up...

Actually, staring at screens won't impair your vision. It may make your eyes tired, but that's it.

This could be wrong, but my eye doctor told me that people in rural Africa have an average vision of 20/15 (significantly better than 20/20) because they don't spend so much time staring at screens. It would make sense, because the screens on televisions, phones, and computers are just thousands of tiny lights and staring at a light source for a long period of time is said to be bad for your eyes.

Whatever, I'm not a optometrist. That's just what I heard. Maybe I'm wrong.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If that's true, I think i'm going to be blind soon. My vision already sucks.

reading anything small (like writing) for an extended period of time may make you long-sighted, i have 20/18 vision (better than 20/20) but i can't focus easily on things close to me according to my optometrist my long-sightedness came from eye-strain from too much reading, looking at small things ect...

...looking at small things hehe....

Don't you just love evolution?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not really evolution. Those traits are acquired, you're not born with them. They're not in your genetics, therefore, they can't be passed on.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think she was talking about how humans aren't suited for modern life because we haven't had sufficient time to evolve since we lived in the wild.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Maybe.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

She/He meant evolution in a sense of technological advancement simultaneously hand-in-hand with human adjustment.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That is what I meant!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(:

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It will have been so worth it though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So we're going to end up arthritis? That's an adjective, now? :P Typewriters have been around for a while, though, so we won't end up with more arthritis than the previous few generations have.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And carpatunnel (sp?)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Don't forget Carpal Tunnel syndrome from texting and video games!
