+336 When you say the word "the" before a word starting with a consonant it sounds like "thuh" but with a word starting with a vowel it sounds like "thee"; amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't know. I'll have to catch myself on that one.

Thee apple? I don't think so!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thuh apple doesn't sound any better.

@752773 (madib): Lol first thing I said was "Thee apple" haha

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes it does! It sounds wayy better. (:

Apple is a stubborn word.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

thee thuh does it really matter?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Rawr!!): no, but neither does most of the stuff on this site.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's odd, I switch back and forth for no apparent reason with vowels.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I always say "thuh"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not a matter of preference, it's actually a grammar rule, everybody is supposed to do it. Stupid English!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I was gonna say, I was definitely taught to say them that way. You got points taken off on oral presentations if you mixed them up.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh my teachers aren't that strict, but I learned it that way and it feels more natural to me. English is one of the most confusing languages ever...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It is a grammar rule? I have never heard that before. I feel like a moron now.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I usually say it like "thuh" but I'll randomly say "thee"... there's really no rhyme or reason to it for me. :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Personally, I pronounce it "tehe"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thee orange? moron.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's definitely how I would say it.
