Children's entertainment has pretty much always been this. It's just that nobody remembers the mediocre shows, because they're mediocre. People DO remember the good shows, because they're good and, because people watched them, ran for a much longer time than boring shows. Of course you're going to remember a brilliant series that ran for four years above a mediocre, unremarkable one that got cancelled after two weeks and was forgotten even faster.
