+79 Stem-cell research needs to be stopped in due course. The world's getting overcrowded. People will just have to die, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Except for all those barren parts. How about instead of letting people die and slowing down the advancement of society, we develop technology to live in Antarctica or on the other 70% of this planet's surface that is currently unoccupied?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Also, the moon is 100% unoccupied.

Commence 'Occupy the Moon!' "We are the 100%!"

Prove it o_O

Only until Newt Gingrich gets elected.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Actually, it was because he wasn't elected.

That man and his lunar colony... smh

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But are stem cell research and moon occupation technology excelling at the same pace? And will we be able to keep the earth clean with expansion such as that?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I didn't say we should invest in moon research. Of course I don't think it's a bad idea. Yeah. We could keep the earth clean if we invest more time in alternate forms of energy. Not solar or wind crap. I'm talking about nuclear energy. If we can find a way to get rid of the waste or discover fusion, we could produce large amounts of clean energy. Of course meltdowns are also a problem, hence the need for further research. We can't just shut down stem cell research. It's a fantastic idea and will certainly lead to many scientific breakthroughs in the field of medicine. Our society needs to constantly better itself.

I wonder how many people who YYA'd this are against abortion.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, you'll be regretting this opinion when you get cancer or muscle damage and you can't get treatment.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Stem cell research does not only involve getting stem cells from an embryo before differentiation. There are adult stem cells (bone marrow transplants, anyone?), and in the future cells can be taken from your liver, for instance, and be de-differentiated. There's also umbilical cord blood use, etc. So "stem cell research" entails a lot.

Fertility-suppressing implants that are only diabled when you are both of age and pass an IQ test. It would both curb population growth and prevent the spread of rednecks.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That is a terrible idea. How would you like someone to take away your right to have children? And just because you pass an IQ test, it doesn't make you a good parent, and to be a good parent there is no threshold for a minimum IQ. IQ and parenting are totally mutually exclusive.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Of course it's a terrible idea, that's why I put it on the Internet.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

None of that makes sense. How is stopping stem cepp research related to overpopulation? Also, I don't think anyone has used embryonic stem cells in years.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If people can harness stem cells for medical purposes, there would be no more cancer, amputations, or body deterioration in general. People could virtually live forever if they wanted to.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Populations already get wiped out in different ways. I'm sure that if you were the one suffering, your view would be different.
