+481 It is highly unlike that there will be another book series with a plot as elaborate as and a background story as intricate as Harry Potter's, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Twilight! Yeah...just kidding. The Hunger Games maybe?...best recently...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I absolutely LOVE The Hunger Games, but there isn't as much... detail to the background story. It's there, don't get me wrong. But the background story and subplots in Harry Potter were intense. Though, I suppose you have to take into consideration that The Hunger Games series includes three books, whereas Harry Potter has seven.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just the detail put into the story of Lily and Severus and it's impact on the story far surpasses that of the Hunger games. Even if they had four more book, I doubt they would come close.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Good point. I still adore The Hunger Games though. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh of course :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Personally, I like the Darren Shan saga better..its the only vampire series I can actually stand.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

horrible ending to the series IMO

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Mockingjay was way too rushed and the background plot and characters aren't really mentioned and don't really do much.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Catching Fire was the best. I agree about Mockingjay though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Agreed. I liked the arena in Catching Fire much better than in Hunger Games, I kept getting lost...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I hate going to the bookstore and seeing vampire books on the shelves. Read Leviathan....Scott Westerfeld rocks.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Freaking Westerfield is a genius. Ever read the Bartimaeus Trilogy? That's Jonathan Stroud but shit that's a good series.....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Leviathon was great, but as intricate as it was it still had fewer back stories and subplots and information then Potter. Not saying it was bad, I quite liked it

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Lord of the rings maybe, or the vampire chronicles by Anne Rice. HP is an awesome series bunt would go as far to agree with the op.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I definitely agree with you about Lord of the Rings. I think it ties HP.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Have to disagree with you on that one. HP has some good points, but LOTR is a better written series of books.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

HP isn't elaborate or intricate, j.k. rowling just added a lot of extra stuff. When you think about it, the story line really isn't that deep, because if it was it wouldn't be as popular. Its actually quite simple which is why so many people have read it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There are small little things you never pay attention to that add up in the end for a big spot in the story. And the way the characters' relationships are is a big web.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

wow because no other author has ever done that before.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No- take a look at just a few minutes mentioned when Snape calls Lily a mudblood. That one-minute conversation affects nearly the entire series. The detail and thought behind the Marauders, the story of Tom's mother. They explain so much of the story. Dumbledore and Arianna... I could go on.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You do realize this was started as a pretty much bedtime story, it wasnt made with so many plots, she never even planned to expand on it. Pretty much everyone is saying they were so well written and the plot and "background story" was so orgasmic when it was just the plot that was good. There was nothing intended, she looked back at her book to see what she could expand on. SPEW came out, then it just went away, there could have been a long story about that. I agree it was entertaining, but not well written or had intricate story lining.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not in the way JK Rowling has, sir negative.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't agree. There are far better books than Harry Potter. That's just my opinion. And that's all I'm going to say because I don't want to get into a fight.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not a debate on whether they are good or not, it's the intricate details that impact the story massively.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Am I the only one that notices these are KIDS BOOKS? I'm 17 and these books are total shit to me, I'd much rather read Shakespeare, Steinbeck, Orwell, they are the ones with real literature talent, not a couple of chicks that got lucky when the reading population got a whole lot more stupid in their book choices.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

this includes Darren Shan, Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Twilight, etc. They are all written at a 10 year old reading level.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That doesn't mean only 10 year olds can enjoy them. I started reading HP when I was 7 or 8, and am still finding foreshadowing I missed when I read it the first few times, even though it's been nearly 6 years.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

THANK YOU!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well aren't you a pretentious asshat.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Obviously, you're a pretentious douchebag who thinks that he needs to make himself look smart to impress people. It seems obvious that you've never read the HP series, because if you have, you wouldn't be saying that it's shit. It's EFFING BRILLIANT, but maybe you're too stupid to catch on to what's going on. You're never too old to enjoy the series, so stop putting age labels on it. You just want to feel mature by pushing away anything that a ten-year-old has ever touched.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it's actually my comment, wasn't logged on till i made it: and ya, I read all of those. They all sucked! They writing was terrible. Good story line. I WILL GIVE THEM THAT. they have a good story, they just need to learn how to write it in a more mature way!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

A more mature way? Isn't the point of writing to write in a creative way people can relate to and understand? If everything I read was Shakespeare level, I'd get pretty sick of reading.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

writing like a 10 year old's narrative is not a creative way to write

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The first 2 or 3 books could be considered "kids books" but by book 7 they are FAR from that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But the thing is that J.K Row;ling created this whole world by herself. Yes she definatley got ideas from other places, but to create something such as a horcrux that is a major part of the 2 final books and it pulls together things from past books, and dementors which suck your soul to represent a period of her depression. Thats talent. If the series wasn't as good as people claim it is, then why is it so sucessful, do you any other series with a theme park devoted to it. So even though the whole series may seem childish you have to credit her for creating such an amazing world with its own gov. system and even its own currency. Thats just something.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ah, but books like Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman (using this example because I read it recently) created their own world, more impressively, and in a single book rather than seven. With more depth and much better characters. I'd add to that that most authors in the fantasy genre (excepting some urban fantasy writers) tend to create their own government systems and currency. It's not as hard as it sounds. I've done it. Also, the series is successful because the masses like it. The masses aren't known for their taste in literature. I won't say that J.K. Rowling didn't write a very good series of books, but they're hardly filled with endless depth and amazing-ness that this post would put onto them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Look at it as a compilation of stories and other things from books way older than HP. It's mainly just a copy of what other people have written. I know most people do this, but you can't say she created the world all by herself, because she really didn't.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There are other series. Peter pan has its own rides, Buzz lightyear, Superman, there are a lot.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

as in a WHOLE PARK

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Harry Potter isn't the first elaborate series ever written, there's bound to be more.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The Alex Rider Series

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Dan Brown books may not have to much background stuff but they are really intricate and well written as thriller books.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You fucking kidding me? Just look at any good fantasy series. Maybe it'll be the best TEEN or KID oriented series for a while, but there are already plenty of series in general with way more time and detail put into creating the world and the background than Harry Potter. I mean just look at Lord of the Rings--I know what was written a while ago, but there's no comparison as to depth. Enjoyability, however, is subjective/debatable.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Personally i enjoy Graceling, beginning as a series, and the Maximum Ride series

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I would just like to point out that it says 'highly unlikely' not impossible.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I disagree with how elaborate it is said to be. it honestly isn't that elaborate. its just entertaining and has a good plot

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wow hp is just one good series, yes other books can have in depth plots and detailed backgrounds hp isn't the only one. It annoying how hp fans think hp is the only good series out there. Yes I have read the books so i know the series

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, I'm two years late. But A Song of Ice and Fire series can definitely compare to the incricate plot of Harry Potter. That series is incredible. It's the only series I've liked as much as Harry Potter
