It's not just the holidays; our bodies naturally put on an average of 8lbs in the winter. (That's young adults; I'm not sure about the average for other age groups.) Could be perhaps we hibernated somewhere back along the evolutionary line, or maybe it's because it helps us stay a little warmer *shrug* either way, it sure is a pain to keep it from happening.
