+275 Former drug addicts and alcoholics have to stop saying, "I almost died." No. Cancer survivors almost died. You almost had too good a time, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Don't belittle their problem by giving an example of another problem that has no relation whatsoever to theirs.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They make their problems seem like the worst thing in the world. Like they have no control. They can choose to stop it whenever they want, they're just too moronic to even try. Cancer patients have no control over the disease all they can do is fight until they overcome it. I am comparing someone who almost dies with no control over it to someone who can turn it all around Don't try and justify the actions of drug addicts. They are the scum of the earth. A virus. Taking and never giving back. Of course there are exceptions. But I am speaking about the majority

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well alcoholism is technically a disease ans usually by the time they wanna turn around its too late, they are still sick people. I think it is a little harsh to call drug addicts the scum of the earth, some people get addicted to medications that they were at some point taking for a good reason-fuck pharmaceutical companies are pumping people full of addicting drugs everyday. Some people dont have anyone to help them turn around, maybe if they actuall REHABILITATED drug addicts instead of sending them to prison (where they will stay addicted to drugs) we can turn things around. They REALLY need to legalize marijuana and I promise you there will be less crackheads, oh yeah and marijuana is helping those cancer patients have some quality in life-so I really hope you are not bashing people that smoke weed too.

Substance abusers have no control over their actions once they are physically and psychologically addicted to drugs or alcohol.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(DanielJames):Although there is some truth in that, I can't fully believe that a drug addict can't control themselves. Ive never been on a drug hard enough to gave serious addictive properties, I stay true to the marijuana. And even though I drink on a regular basis I'm by no means an alcoholic. Can't say first hand, its just hard to believe that.

Addiction is a chronic disease of the brain.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

When you're addicted to a hard drug, you go through dreadfully painful withdrawals when you don't get it. I know someone who's addicted to heroin, and he overdosed. It was by no means a good time. He passed out pretty quick, and the ambulance had to give him this drug that counteracts it, and he was in a lot of pain. Have a little empathy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

usually, the drug is taken by choice, no one puts it in their mouth, nose, or vain

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Once they are addicted, however, it is extremely difficult to reverse the course because their brain is now diseased. Drug addicts and alcoholics can not "choose to stop whenever they want" like the OP indicates.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i know but they chose to start, and they wouldn`t be having the problem of stopping if they never started

by Anonymous 13 years ago

70% of cancer patients chose an unhealthy lifestyle that lead to their cancerous death. They chose to start and they wouldn't have the problem if they never started.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

and 95% of addicts took the first one themselves

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Still, how can you agree with this post? They did not "almost have too much of a good time," they became diseased and had a near-death experience just like cancer patients.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

don`t take it so literaly, he`s basically saying they brought it upon themselves

by Anonymous 13 years ago

He's also saying that addicts have control over their actions, while cancer patients do not, and that addicts are "morons" and the "scum of the earth." All of which is entirely false.

A lot of people with cancer also cause their own cancer. Like people who smoke for example..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

not a lot. a select few. its not right to say people with breast cancer or pancreatic cancer caused their cancer. even people with lung cancer may have had no control over it. they may have been exposed to it secondhand.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nearly 70% of all cancer deaths can be attributed to smoking, eating and drinking habits, or a "sedentary lifestyle."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Never said breast cancer or pancreatic cancer patients cause their cancer. They simple said a lot of people do. Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers out there, and the leading cause of lung cancer is smoking.

Take a psychology class. Perhaps one that specializes in drug and alcohol addiction. It'll open up your eyes. Besides, have you ever SEEN someone go through heroin withdrawal?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, theres only almost in horse shoes or hand grenades

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't think I've ever seen a drug addict or alcoholic that looked like they were having "too good a time"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

As Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said, "There is nothing more frightful than ignorance in action."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Addiction is a disease you bring onto yourself. Damnit, people, no one shoved it down your throat, and made you an addict. Don't wanna be an addict? Don't try it in the first place. As someone who saw many people go down that path, my father, uncle, cousin, name it. Same with people who smoke and get cancer. Your choice, your fault. In the end, i have NO respect for drug addicts and alcoholics, because they brought it onto themselves. The pain they cause other people is just sickening. I have been clean all of my life, and I have gone through noticeable shit, not petty, "oh wahhh my bf broke up with me wahwahhh". Everyone deals with shit. It matters how you handle it. Handle it with drugs? Ok, I don't care. But dont go acting like you're the fucking victim.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thank you, that's pretty much what I wanted to convey. ...I'm not clean though I love me some weed and jäger.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What are with these posts lately? When someone says "I almost died," regardless of situation, it is called exaggeration, a form of figurative language. People need to calm down and stop taking everything so serious, which is ironic because I am a very serious person. It is one thing to actually SAY it to a cancer survivor, but really? I don't think anyone is directing their statement to people with more unfortunate situations.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

At first, I clicked "Yeah you are!" Then I saw the comments and clicked "No way". I saw the ignorance in you and how judgmental you are. And I'm kinda ashamed I had to read the comments to notice it making me the same kind of person you are at first.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think that what's the most upsetting about this post is how many people agree with it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

so... what about liver and lung cancer which result from drug and alcohol abuse?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Definition of ignorance right here..

Posts like this are why I posted this: http://www.amirite.net/mobile/461462

You're an idiot, and you're rude. Just, no.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Being a cancer patient and somewhat of an addict I can tell you that both drug addicts and cancer patients have it bad. Before I get bombarded with insult I want to point out that the drug I was addicted to was a medication to treat my leukemia. People should spend so much time debating over petty things, in the end you'll come to realize that both sides are true and each have questionable exceptions.

So much ignorance in only 1 post. This deserves an award. The retard-award.
