Inhale sulfur hexaflouride, pretend you're arnold schwarzenegger.

And then you die.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The only thing it does is deprive your brain of oxygen.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But that's the only way you can die.

I would call troll, but after reading your profile, it seems completely out of character for you.

No, I'm serious. If you leg gets chopped off, you die because you lose too much blood and it can't carry enough oxygen to the brain. When you drown, it's because you can't breathe, and oxygen can't get to your brain. You sit in the electric chair, your organs fry, and they can't sustain the system that delivers oxygen to your brain anymore. I guess you could die from getting your brain smashed to bits, but that's beside the point.

If you get hanged, you don't die from lack of oxygen.

"Suspension, like the short drop, causes death by using the weight of the body to tighten the trachea with the noose. Criminals are often reported to have little or no struggle before they go limp, because their jugular vein and carotid arteries are blocked and the blood that rushes to the brain reduces."

My bad. I was under the impression that some connection between your brain and your spinal cord was snapped.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That does happen in a different form of hanging, but you die because when your spinal chord snaps, you and your organs become immobilized and can no longer get oxygen to the brain.

I've never given this much thought to how people die. I've always assumed they just died by loss of blood or by hanging or whatever.

See, you learn things when you pay attention. And sorry for being a smartass, I was just trying to prove my point.

I appreciate knowledge. It's the most valuable thing one can possess.
