Stem cell research should be allowed, amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
I'm for it as long as it is cord blood
by Anonymous13 years ago
Negative.
by Anonymous13 years ago
why? just curious.
by Anonymous13 years ago
It is unnecessary and unethical.
by Anonymous13 years ago
unnecessary? it can save lives.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Um, I'm diabetic, and stem cell research could change my life. So i'm for it.
by Anonymous13 years ago
comment war
by Anonymous13 years ago
sorry, what exactly is it?
by Anonymous13 years ago
a way to find cures using random body things that arent being used
by Anonymous13 years ago
You know I JUST did a paper on this. I am not sure what my view is about. I am only 14 so I really have no view.
From what I researched, embryonic stem cells are bad, but other than that, saving people is a good thing. I just don't have enough knowledge for it. So I guess I am not good in this upcoming discussion.
by Anonymous13 years ago
wow...that contributed absolutely nothing to the conversation. except i know how old you are now.
by Anonymous13 years ago
i dont think your comment contributed much either. she didn't say it contributed anything, she was jsut commenting, dont be rude
by Anonymous13 years ago
this is the internet. you're clearly in the wrong place if youre expecting people to not be rude because youre 'new to it all'.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Actually it told you that I did a paper on it too. And besides, I JUST said that I wasn't going to be part of this conversation anyway. I don't have enough facts.
by Anonymous13 years ago
If you don't want to be a part of the conversation, why did you need to tell us? Couldn't you have just not said anything at all?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Well I could have. But too late now. And I wanted to say that I did a paper on this. Jeez its not like I'm being a douche or spamming, just skip a comment if ya don't like it.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Honestly what the hell was the point of your comment? "Just so you know I have nothing valid to say and I just wasn't to say I have nothing to say."
by Anonymous13 years ago
Hey, they never said I couldn't. Fine you WANT me to say something?!
Stem cell things are bad. Embryonic stem cell is not good because they are killing potential a babies. They would have had no chance. Are you happy NOW?! jesus
by Anonymous13 years ago
No one asked you to comment. We're just harping on you because you decided to comment but you had nothing to say which is pointless. And btw if you just did a paper on it why haven't you formed an opinion on it? That's the whole point of doing a paper on a subject, to inform yourself about that subject.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Because I did a crap job on the paper. And, believe it or not, it was kind of hard to find stuff for it. So I couldn't really form an opinion.
Plus, It was more of a "what are stem cells" paper, with what research I got, I didn't really need to know much. :p
by Anonymous13 years ago
Which brings me back to my original post: why did you comment on this post? You have nothing to contribute. You're probably that annoying kid who walks up to a conversation and yells "SOOO what are you guys talking about" right in the middle of someone's sentence. I digress...
by Anonymous13 years ago
Well, as long as a fetus is gonna be killed you might as well put it to good use. Let what could have *potentially* found the cure for cancer become the cure for cancer.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Embryonic stem cells aren't from aborted fetuses...
by Anonymous13 years ago
No one said it had to be embryonic stem cells. The post just says "stem cells."
by Anonymous13 years ago
(pikabeau):"Well, as long as a fetus is gonna be killed"
I assumed you were talking about embryonic stem cells...
by Anonymous13 years ago
I was talking about whatever type of stem cells you get from aborted fetuses. I don't know much on the subject though.
by Anonymous13 years ago
No form of stem cells come form aborted fetuses. You can, however, get them from embryos. Scientists can take sperm and eggs and mimic fertilization to create embryos created solely for use in stem cell research. But so many people have a problem with it because they believe life begins at conception.
by Anonymous13 years ago
i wouldve loved to give up the embryo of myself to save a few people. i would much prefer that over living in this cruel, terrible world.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I don't know enough on the subject to say anything other than that embryonic stem cell research is wrong.
by Anonymous13 years ago
you just said you don't know enough on the subject, yet you had to give your opinion. Maybe you should find out what you are talking about before you tell others your opinion.
by Anonymous13 years ago
It is allowed...there's different kind of stem cells. Now the can convert adult skin cells into stem cells without changing the biological structure or dna or anything, and they become totipotent. Its tested and I did a project on it about a month ago...this is new research discovered. ...there's nothing stopping it.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Ugh, I'm so sick of one group of people trying to apply THEIR morals to the whole world and smugly assuming they're correct. Guess what; NO ONE(legally) KILLED FETUSES JUST TO EXPERIMENT WITH THEIR STEM CELLS. I'm sure there are always crazies, but that's not what we're talking about; we're speaking strictly of legit research. SO, being as how ALL of those fetuses are going to die and not have descendents anyway, I think it's unnecessary and unethical to let them go to waste when they could be saving lives- real, established lives. Just in case you didn't get that: BARRING EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH DOES NOT SAVE EVEN ONE CUTE LITTLE BABY, and probably does cost the lives of mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters that actually have lives.
Your issue seems to be more with abortion than stem cell research, and this isn't the place.
by Anonymous13 years ago
most people agreed with this because they don't know what it means, amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Actually, I think more people disagreed with this because they have absolutely no idea what stem cell research is. Embryonic stem cells do not come from aborted fetuses.
by Anonymous13 years ago
If it saves lives, then great. Just so long as it doesn't take others in the process. Namely, embryonic cells shouldn't be taken. Cord blood will be wonderful until we figure out/perfect making human cells from scratch.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I think it should be legal if it won't survive anyway and the parents agree to it.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I can type anything here and people will vote down cuz i voted nw.
this just shows how unaccepting people are about other peoples opinions.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Maybe you're stupid and you don't accept other people's opinions.
by Anonymous13 years ago
you name completely contradicts yourself.
you guys have no idea why i voted nw, you just simply choose to vote me down.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Sorry, but I'm pretty stupid. Can you explain why my name contradicts myself? And I'm pretty sure that the reason for you being voted down was in my comment to you.
by Anonymous13 years ago
*votes down*
Because you said we would.
by Anonymous13 years ago
There's already been enough wasted tax money on stem cell research with zero positive outcome for years. Move on to something else.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Do you guys know what embryonic stem cells are? They're the extra cells from invitro fertilization. If they aren't used for stem cell research, they are thrown away. They have absolutely no chance of becoming a fetus. Now, I have type one diabetes and I would like not to have it at some point in the future, and stem cells could potentially cure type one diabetes. I don't know about you guys, but I think these extra cells could be pretty awesome if they were given the chance to actually do something instead of being thrown away.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Agreed.
I have Type 1 too, and I would love to be able to say some day that I used to have it, not that I still do.
