+107 So Jim was free all along? Seriously Huckleberry Finn has no point, amirite?

I just finished this book in english. Thought the same exact thing. What a waste of time.

Thank you for ruining the book I'm probably not going to finish in 4 days...

The book is about southern racism... if you don't like a book, it a fault of your own

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In no way did I say that I didn't like the book. This was simply my first reaction upon finishing the book on December 16 and since amirite is an opinion based website I have all the rights to express MY opinions on any topic of my choosing.

you're a douche

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion so I can't change what you think about me but frankly I feel that its sad to trade insults over such a petty thing on the internet so I won't resort to doing so. Have a nice day :)

first of all, are you dumb? that's NOT the point of the book at all. like, what? it's irrelevant. second of all, i could be like harry potter could have skipped 5 books and just finished shit to begin with. but the books are still good the way they are. it's about the journey not the destination, as cliche as that sounds.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No I am not dumb. I actually quite like Huckleberry Finn in retrospect but as you can see this post was made on December 16, the day I finished reading the book for class and this was my first reaction. Additionally, I myself am a huge Harry Potter fan as can be seen from my profile and I'm all for the 'journey not the destination' but again since amirite is an opinion based website and this was MY first opinion about the book, I wanted to share it. Now I can't dictate the way you react to this post or my opinion but being the OP thought I should further explain. Have a nice day :)

Well, now I don't feel obligated to read this for English class.

it's about life. the whole point of it wasnt just the surface shit--the escaping into the north so Jim is safe shit. the whole point is this incredible journey that breaks boundaries. I mean imagine at that poing in time a black man and a white man (boy?) travelling up this river into freedom- racial equality. to say the book is pointless...I just. what is this I dont even.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

As I mentioned before this post was merely my first reaction upon finishing the book last December. So no, at this point in time I don't think its pointless and in retrospect I quite like the book but at that point I did hence the post.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Spoiler alert! Wtf? Thanks for ruining it!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not going to insult you, because that would be stupid. But calling the book pointless is kind of a blow to the author, and I really hope you didn't miss the point of the book.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thank you for not taking the same route as some others here. And no, I didn't miss the point Huckleberry Finn. This post was made literally the moment after I closed the book thus was my initial reaction. In retrospect, I quiet liked it and having previously enjoyed other books by the author I in no way intended to insult him.

That is comforting to hear. Looking back now, I am a little disappointed in the people who couldn't understand what was a light jest.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well it makes me happy to hear that at least you and the people who voted this post up could understand :)
