+696 If you can't sing live, you can't sing at all. Amirite?

That's like saying "If you can't perform, then you can't act". I know you're actually talking of autotune, but the way you worded it is incorrect.

nah, tom delonge can't sing most the time but he sure as hell can sing

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Dude I fucking love Tom Delonge! Even though his voice has been getting worse, I love that he is confident enough not to care what people think about his voice. He's still in my opinion one of the greatest live musicians on earth

Hell yeah! He is just fecking amazing.

*cough cough Taylor Swift cough cough* Except I still love T-Swizzle. I love her albums, though I do agree with some of the negative criticism people fling at her. She can't sing live, though. I've stopped watching her occasional televised live performances.

well.... I agree, and know what you're trying to say, but what about if they're shy and just get nervous?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't know... If we're talking about normal people, I have some friends who are fantastic singers when I catch them singing and they don't think I'm listening, but if they tried to sing in front of a group of people, they'd probably freeze up and not be able to hit some high notes. (This happens to some of my friends and also me.) But for celebrities, this is mostly true.

Thank you for restating the opinion of the OP.

I think some are better live. This Century, for example, are better live than on their album.

Flyleaf live is really good, and Lady Gaga singing poker face acoustic(it's live) is absolutely amazing

I you can't sing live you can't sing at all sorry. People who judge singers based on what they hear off of an album are stupid. A live performance from a singer is raw, you can't use studio magic on stage, so unless you're lip syncing off a backing track on stage ( see Ashley Simpson, and Milli Vanilli) you have to sing using you own abilities. On an album (unless it's a live album taken from concerts or shows) a person has a team of people working with them, and many times to correct a mistakes. Also with tools like autotune and other touch-up tools, you can make a bad singer sound like a good singer. Autotune before in was used to the extent by T-Pain or Kesha (which is called obvious use where they use it for a robotic effect). Autotune was used plainly as a pitch correction tune where your weren't supposed to know it was being used. So yes, if you can't sing live, you're pretty much can't sing. There's no "nervousness" or crowd noise to it. If Crowd noise was problem, no singer would be able to sing. Beyonce concerts are full of fans screaming, but she manages to sing great.
