It's also a lot cheaper. I can't sew, so I had to buy a cosplay for $60 (and that was on sale, it would've been $90) but one of my friends made the same costume for about $30.

My friend wanted to buy a Lolita dress and all of the good ones she found were upwards of $100 and I opted to make her one for around $60. ($40 for materials with $20 commission)
