+73 Women were, and still are, oppressed like many races but we don't get scholarships just because we're women or holidays to celebrate how far we've come, amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

There are plenty of women's scholarships.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I was just about to say that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There's also a Women's History Month.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

And now white straight men are being oppressed. Can't wait 'til they get their own history month.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I'm confused how to vote. Is OP talking from the point of view of a man or woman? It seems like a girl but it could go both ways. Whatever. I'm guessing girl.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It's those evil Caucasian males. They don't want anyone to succeed but themselves.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You made two complaints about not receiving special treatment. Yet you already benefit from both of the things you complained about. no

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I can get my own scholarships based on my actual skills (being a woman does not count as a skill) and I see no point in having a holiday, it's not like I'd celebrate it...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

could you imagine a woman's holiday it'd be awesome

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If it'd be the same as other 'awareness' or 'appreciatation' days, I couldn't see it being that exciting...at all.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

oh i was thinking like celebrating having a vagina or something like that idek im way too tired

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Haha, now I wanna hear how you'd like to celebrate that!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

like perhaps we could have cakes in the shapes of boobs and give cards that say congrautlations on your vagina and then we could give each other nail polish and hair straighteners

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You just completely changed my mind then; I want a woman holiday now!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

i'm glad i could be of service

I love when guys get butthurt from posts like these, especially white males (you happen to be the most privileged in society). I'm no feminist, but it's absolutely true, women have come a long fucking way from our previous stance in society, but we're also not completely there yet. I don't necessarily agree we need a holiday or some shit, but there's nothing wrong with wanting more recognition for these accomplishments. I'm all for equal rights, not special treatment, and frankly a lot of girls feel the same way. However, it seems that a lot of guys have trouble understanding this. Put things into perspective and you'll grow a little as a person... ... and maybe you'll stop getting friend zoned.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Apply cold water to burned area after reading the last sentence.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yes women have come a long way, but pretty much every girl that would be applying for scholarships wasn't even born until years after women were equal to men. And what does friend zone have to do with anything? Do you put people who don't believe in equality in the friend zone?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I'm not really on board with the scholarship thing, I honestly couldn't care. It's just that the minute any girl mentions equal rights, a ton of guys jump on it with the whole "you don't want equal rights, you want special treatment. Blah blah blah get over it bitch." Obviously not every guy does or thinks this, but the same is for women and their views on equality. Just trying to make that fact clear. And "until years after women were equal to men", well, that's not really true at all. Women aren't completely equal to men in society yet. Granted we are very close, but there's still a bit to go, and I have no doubt that time will come soon. Concerning my last line, I'm just making fun of the fact that a lot of guys complain about being friendzoned yet often act like total dochenozzles. It's just a joke though, not really trying to use it to support my argument lol.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Getting Ito colleges, I believe they are about the same.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Because friend zoning is totally related. y

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Well, I already explained that I was poking fun, so it is what it is.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah, you "already" explained it after I commented.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What can I do, you commented before I was able to finish, though it was already added to the comment by then.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

In addition to what everybody else said, women now make up the majority of college students and even bigger majority of college graduates. Equality is always something to strive for but in terms of equality in the university system women haven't done half bad for themselves.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's simply because it has been found that women on average do better in high school and that there are more males that drop out in university, coupled with the fact that there are physically more women then men on this planet. Also there are more women than men in the workforce, however Men dominate higher levels in the workforce but that's not to say women aren't catching up I'm all for equality of both genders I say everyone gets an equal opportunity at everything in life! (and then we can bake cakes and braid each others hair and sing about butterflies - I feel like I sound like a child)

by Anonymous 11 years ago

How about you make all that happen? If you want a holiday, make it yourself. If you want scholarships, make that happen. No one is stopping you.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

There are scholarships for women, and I think they're really great. Most of them are aimed at majors which are dominated by men, so all they do is encourage women to pursue majors so they won't remain underrepresented. Whenever I tell people that I want to become a mechanical engineer, I always get told "Maybe you should consider something more feminine". And it's not because they're sexist, it's because they know I'll feel out of place in a male-dominated profession, but maybe with those //evil sexist scholarships// that can eventually change.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Really? It's kind of sad that people actually say that.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It really is, but like I said, I understand the sentiment.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah, I'm majoring in civil engineering, so I'm worried about that as well, but I don't think a male environment is enough for people to think you should change your career choice.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Oh please. This post is just like those people who are like "why isn't there White History month?" "Why don't we have a Pride parade for straight people?" Stuff like this is about oppressed groups celebrating their accomplishments, and thinking about what there is still left to be done.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Honestly all I can picture when I read posts like this are the millions upon millions of girls in this generation who have never felt the effects of oppression in their lives at all complaining that past generations were oppressed. If you've personally suffered an injustice then my heart goes out to you but when youwant rewardfor the work and struggles of other people simply because they share the same gender as you then I encourage you to go out and vote, go to school, and hundreds of other things that women in the past could not do that you can now instead of whining about not being given an advantage.
