Instead of Dissociative Identity Disorder (the correct term for multiple personalities), it's more likely that Smeagol/Gollum was schizophrenic. One of the defining characteristics of DID is that the different identities do not have knowledge of the existence of each other, and obviously Smeagol was aware of Gollum's presence.
