+455 When something bad happens you have three choices: you can either let it define you, let it destroy you, or you can let it strengthen you, amirite?

An old mate of mine told me that he used to say every morning "Today could make me, or today could break me."

gay.

Or you can, you know, ignore it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

that's letting it define you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not really. If you're already the kind of person who would ignore, it doesn't change anything.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It kind of does. You ignore it, so you don't care about it. That means that you surrender yourself to it rather than fighting back to it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not surrendering at all. It's refusing to let is escalate to something it shouldn't be.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

maybe surrender was the wrong word, but by refusing it, you put out that you basically accept it? maybe not in that context^ but along the lines of it somehow right? If you don't surrender, you accept.

Once something bad happens, is there anything you can do but accept it? Take a scraped knee: you can disinfect it, but band- aids on it and have mommy kiss it better, but nothing undoes the scraped knee.

I'm just saying that, by ignoring it, you let it define you because you ALLOW it...to you know.. not reluctant. idk what you were trying to say with that^

I think by the context of this post, it's implying that the bad thing that happened wasn't something you could easily ignore.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes; I didn't mean like, "oh my hair looks like shit today."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, I took it to mean something like failing a class/course, a friend or relative dying, relationship ending, being forced to move - not something over-dramatic, but still something life-changing that you could use to re-assess your life.

Most definitely what I meant
