+552 It's a sad statistic that more 7 year olds know how to use a 'smartphone' then how to tie their own shoe laces. amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's probably also a false statistic.

Tying your shoes? There's an app for that!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's also sad how many people use "then" and "than" interchangeably.... I'm truly curious to find out how it started though! Because I don't think people are actually confused, I'm thinking it's a new trend?

Tying shoelaces requires fine motor skills that most young children don't develop until they hit elementary school. However, a big touch screen phone is pretty easy to control with just one finger where everything is laid out in front of them.

7 years olds are elementary school aged

"A study conducted by AVG found that 19 percent of 2-5 year-olds could play with a smart phone app, but only 9 percent of those same children could tie their shoes. Yikes!" Straight from the article. :/ (see wobbuffet's comment up there)

POST SAYS: 7 year old. YOU SAID: elementary school aged. when i leave a comment, it pertains to the post and what the comment i was replying to said, not the article.

With a smartphone, one can explore it and figure it out on their own, unlike with learning how to tie your shoes, which you needs to be taught by an other person.

Who the hell gives a 7 yr old their smartphone to play with- let alone 2-5? That's just ridiculous. They wouldn't get their sticky, careless little fingers anywhere near mine.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

7? maybe, probably not. 2-5? thats just begging for it to get broken.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why is it sad? The kid will probably need to know how to work the phone in his/her job when he/she grows up.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

as in... 7 years olds learn how to use a phone and THEN they learn how to tie their laces?

It's a sad statistic that more people know how to use the internet THAN how to use proper grammar, amirite?
