+209 If you're a criminal, on your way to kill someone, it's not that big of a deal to obtain a gun illegally (or difficult). The only people deterred by gun control laws are law abiding citizens, who then don't have a way to defend themselves. Funny how that works, amirite?

Like druuuuugs.

This reminds me of what Sarah Palin said..I think it would be really stupid to hand every citizen a gun and be like "Here, if anyone tries to attack you just blow their face off." It would only make access to weapons easier for criminals. If everyone had the right to legally carry a gun, murder might as well be legal too.

No, crime would be nonexistent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're right, but morally, the world would be more fucked up than it already is.

How much worse can it get?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't want to know.

In 1997, the English Parliament decided to ban guns. From 1998 to 2005, the number of deaths and injuries from handguns skyrocketed 340 percent.... In 2007, a study was done that compared gun ownership and murder rates in almost every single European country. It found that countries with more widespread gun ownership had fewer murders, while countries with less gun ownership had more murders... I know it sounds ridiculous, but consider this: Let's say every woman in the country was issued a handgun (not from the government, of course), and they could do whatever they wanted with it. Let's say only half of them carried it around with them. The other half gave it away, put it up, etc. Now assume that you are a rapist. Are you really going to try and rape that woman knowing that there is a 50% chance she has a gun?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Legal or not there is always a 50% chance that that woman has a gun.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No there's not?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes there is..why wouldn't there be

by Anonymous 13 years ago

From an elementary perspective of probability, yes, there is a 50% chance. But if only 12.5% of the women in a country posses a gun, then there is only a 12.5% chance that she has one.

Statistics don't mean anything imo

sigh... stop talking

I am so glad that there are still people who realize this. Thank you.

"I have never been in a situation where I wish I had a gun. I have however been in situations where I'm glad the other guy doesn't have a gun."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

but laws can't stop criminals from getting guns

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I dont know about you, but I've been in plenty of situations where I wish I could defend myself...it's probably because of where I live (LA), lol. I have to resort to my dad's .40S&W pistol in case of a home invasion (which has happened to my house before) when the guy trying to hurt myself and my family is armed with something similar to that. Unfortunately, since CA has strict gun control laws, I can't have the upper edge in a combat situation (no pistol grips on assault rifles, and 10 round internal magazines? Wtf). In short, we need to keep the guns out of the hands of bad guys and put them in the hands of the good guys.

this goes both ways. both ways are iffy. more guns = more "accidents" (accidental or not), less guns = less protection. either way, an extreme is needed for each side, but personally i prefer the way canada does it. there are obvious risks for either cases. for less gun freedom, criminals will have ways to get guns, but crackdowns will be likely more frequently and for more gun freedom there is obvious school shootings, more psychopaths killing people on the street, and in the highly unlikely case, mass murders or street brawls filled with innocent people "protecting" themselves.

AMEN! This has been my point all along. A criminal wont attack you if there's a good chance you have got a gun. And if youre a law abiding citizen, theres no reason you shouldnt have a gun. If I'm a murderer, Im not going to worry about legally buying a gun, and whatnot. Im gonna get one, legal or not, and kill that person. However, One, theres a much lower chance that, unless im a complete moron, im not gonna break in somewhere and attack someone if they probably have a gun. and two, if anyone had the right to own a gun (with exceptions of say, mentally disabled, convicted criminals with convictions in the past x amount of years, etc) then would-be victims can defend themselves. Also, Whats the use in having the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, yet no right to defend that stuff?

yay a political debate!!! I love those!!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

hey, I'm not saying we ban guns, I'm just saying to put a shitload more regulations out there. sure, own your gun, but not a god damn sub machine gun or a sniper rifle. also, gunshows are very dangerous. go there, pay a couple hundred bucks, walk out with a pretty dangerous gun. almost no damn regulations.
