+18 Christians: the majority of our theology comes from one man. And his name wasn't Jesus. This sort of worries you sometimes, amirite?

Are you refering to Paul?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yessir. His interpretation of Jesus and the Scriptures is pretty much what has become Christianity. for Christians, it's a lot of trust to put on one man in my opinion

by Anonymous 13 years ago

All of his letters weren't actually written by him. A good portion were written by his followers and other church leaders.

Which of the pauline books do scholars say were not written by him? I am just curious to see which one's and why your exegesis points you to that conclusion.

Colossians, Ephesians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus, and Hebrews all have disputed authorship. It's been a year since I took the class over this and I remember a lot less than I should.

I know that it is a majority view that Hebrews is not a pauline because the format does not match the others. some view that it was Barnabas, Apollos, and there were others. i think the other ones scholars have a majority view that Paul wrote them. which i think is funny because when they were putting together the canon one of the main advocates for Hebrews said that if Paul did not write it the book should not be in there. I am glad they did put it in the bible

you are right Joe, Paul is the majority of the NT, jesus has only a small part of what we consider as scripture

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why would you capitalize Joe and Paul, but not Jesus? Just out of curiosity....

He was also a pharisee before he changed his name from Saul to Paul.

The bible is Gods word, even if human wrote it.. he told them what to write. Its the truth. some of the books go to specific churches, so we don't have to take every single thing literally. but that defiantly depends. when you read it, things stick out that God almost points out to you.

Careful with the dogma.

Are you referring to prophets?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Scripture is God-breathed. It was written by the Holy Spirit through men, so our theology does come from Jesus

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not sure why this is downvoted, it's fact. Most if not all Christian denominations believe God used the prophets to pass His will to the world.

I didn't see an "I'm an athiest god isn't real blah blah all religious people are stupid" comment yet. Yay.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Or maybe I missed it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Sorry if I offend any atheists but all the atheists that I've met before are assholes about me believing in God.
