+241 Fleeing to a third-world country and living in extreme poverty as a fugitive is never a better option than simply serving your time in the comfort of an American prison, amirite?

prisons are comfortable?

You get hot food and a dry bed to sleep in. That's better living conditions than half the world's population is currently living in.

you couldnt have a dry bed and food in another country? just because its a 3rd world country doesnt mean your life there will be shit. and have you ever been to prison or anything prison like? people are fucking crazy, toilet seats dont have lids, your bologna is green. and also, warm bed in prison isnt always true. my brother went to tent city and he got rained on all the time until he beat up his "room mate" for the bottom bunk.

Obviously the county, state, or federal government (depending on the type of prison) is responsible for every inmate's well-being. If a prisoner died of food poisoning or any other form of mistreatment, you would hear about it on the news. Plus, you can't live in luxury as a fugitive. People are looking for you. If you're a rich Westerner in Ethiopia you'd sticking out like a sore thumb.

i doubt many people die of food poisoning, and cool, the food has to be just good enough for it to not kill them. sounds like living. just because it wont be a lavish wonderful life in a different country doesnt mean its worse than prison. for one, you dont worry about getting raped in the shower. everyone in my family pretty much has gone to prison and it fucking sucks. why would they make it comfortable and nice for people who are being punished. prison gangs, hard beds, brutal guards, bad food, no seats on toilet, no freedom and everything else.

Have any of them lived in a third-world country? Then they have nothing to compare to other than the lavish lifestyle Americans are so accustomed to. Also, Jesus fucking Christ someone talk some God damn sense into your family.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

wtf does my family lacking common sense have to do with any of this...? and yeah, its called travel. lavish lifestyles americans are used to get TAKEN AWAY when they go to prison.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sure, they take away a lavish lifestyle, but to a lot of people, not having to worry about where their next meal is coming from or whether or not they will be blown up in a civil war battle is lavish enough for them. Anyways that's a little off topic. Why are we arguing about this anyway? Do you really believe it was in your family members' best interest to live in fear of getting caught in Sierra Leone, or to just serve their time.

post isnt about best interest.

I agree. My dad was in prison for 27 days and I was just talking to him about that today. He said that food isn't hot and is completely bland and no way are the beds comfortable. And I've been locked up in a mental institution (and I know prison is about 1000000x times worse, but it's the closest experience I've had.) and it's pretty awful having your life decided for you. The worst part about prison is losing your free will. I'd MUCH rather live in extreme poverty and have my OWN free will and my OWN decisions than have those natural rights taken away from me. And I can tell you, first hand, how bad it feels to have freedom taken away.

oh hey i was in a mental institution too. we got to eat half cooked spaghetti with a spoon and our lunch was soggy lunch meat wraped up in a tortilla

Yeah, the food sucked but it was better than school food. Haha

you'd be trapped in a confined space filled with hostility at least in the third world country's you have freedom and can aqcuire happiness, a new start maybe? I know i would rather live in a village or hut than get banged in the shower by a guy, feel scared every waking moment, and live a confined life with no hope

Depends on the amount of time...

I live in a third world country but I'm living a comfortable life. Just because it's a third world country doesn't mean people don't have food. There are people who are in poverty but it's just like the poor Americans.
