+166 Christians are always saying Jesus is Lord and stuff like that on TV, but when an atheist says what he believes on TV, Christians throw a fit, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

pretty much same other way around

by Anonymous 13 years ago

like Mr. Krabs said: it's the other way around

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i'm christian and i don't throw a fit every time someone tells me they're atheist....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

some christians throw a fit, just like some atheists throw a fit. stop with the generalizations! there will almost always be exceptions

do you even watch tv? anytime an atheist puts something against religion in public, the whole christian community is up in arms and protesting until they take it down. you dont see any atheists protesting every church sign or cross out in public. And if Miley Cyrus mentions Jesus in her speech after winning an award, no1 says anything. you think that would be the case if she said something atheist?

Brett, you're awesome. -high five-

@100154 (Brett): The whole Christian community? Really? Do you have any hard evidence of the entire Christian community becoming upset that someone mentioned Jesus Christ on public t.v.?

i don't know how to say something atheist in an acceptance speech? "thank you mom, dad, and Je- .... oh wait" and i am agnostic. but i guess kathy griffin's "jesus had nothing to do with me winning this award. in fact, i don't even think he likes me" thing came close. and yeah people did freak out. but have you seen some of these amirite posts? anything that is positive towards jesus or in line with what christians believe atheists comment like crazy (me especially included) and the reasons you don't see that on tv is because a) there are more christians to protest and b) most atheists just don't make as big of a deal because then christians would freak out in turn and freedom of speech and beand you just can't win. also there is no way you could protest every church and you can't just say "the whole christian community" because then some christians would be like "i have never protested but one day you will open your heart to Jesus Christ" there are exceptions

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, that might have been a bad example, but you get the point. There are thousands of Pro- Christianity things out in public, but hardly any pro- Atheist things because every time one shows up, Christians call this 'infringing on their rights'.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

absolutely! some Christians need to calm down. like when i made a post negatively against Jesus (but mostly about Christians) they all said that they were offended and went into great detail about every reason why Christ is amazing and how much they are in love with him. then they went on to say that i was just wrong, just wrong but one day i WILL have an experience that will open my eyes to God. if i said "one day you will have a reason to doubt him and then you WILL believe as i do" they would freak out

Athiests in Texas handing out porn? I don't believe I read about that. Could you link me?

Not in a million years. You couldn't pay me to go there. I was just a little skeptical of Jayson saying that, because I hadn't heard about it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You know there is a difference between religion and faith. But, anyway, maybe some Christians are afraid, and that's why they react poorly to atheists. They fear about unsaved souls, atheists only have to worry about people being "fools." I'm not rationalizing the behavior and saying it's right. People still need to respond with respect; that is essential. Fear is an unholy thing, and it can hold people captive and turn them into hypocrits. Wouldn't that convince more people? A people of respect and love? I wish I could say that I am a Jesus Freak and I love Him like crazy ,but I'm trying.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Anonymous) i don't think fear is necessarily unholy. it can turn people into unholy people but as long as you work through the fear and don't let it affect you it's ok. and i think that those Christians, many of them may fear that atheists may be right. they are afraid of doubting in case that forces them to go to hell, but are also afraid deep down that nothing is out there to protect them during and after life. but maybe people would rather be Christian and believe if ALL Christians didn't just preach love and respect but also practiced it

I agree with you, but I also think that some Christians might be a little afraid of atheists themselves. People are almost always afraid of what they don't understand, and I know that one of my friends (let's call her Jane) just doesn't get how some people can not believe in anything. But I totally agree that deep down inside, some Christians really ARE unsure of their religion and that comes across as anger. Like how the one kid in class who calls everyone a f** and talks about how stupid gay people are is actually very, VERY in the closet, and VERY unhappy about it.
