+386 Despite what you might think about Harry Potter or Twilight, those books got kids reading. No one can deny how important getting kids to read is, sure the only books they've ever read is about wizards or shiny vampires but at least they were reading something, amirite?

Id rather my future child not read twilight than read at all, there are no good morals in twilight

As opposed to your child watching television absolutely lacking in "good morals"? At least reading- reading anything- stimulates the brain in a positive way.

Tv withgood morals: Recess, The Weekenders, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra will probably be a lot like TLA, i could go on

This is a really good point. Reading is better than no reading at all. Maybe, Twilight could act as a gateway book into better books, like... Harry Potter :P but seriously, I hope they find other things to read and keep reading. I love to read, and Harry Potter was definitely a gateway series that got me into reading other books as well :)

I agree with the idea; reading anything is better than no reading at all, but I really don't want my small child reading a book with a detailed description of Edward and Bella having sex...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Actually there was NO description about the sex... I think Meyers was shy about it..

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It was only implied. Anyway, your "small child" would find Twilight boring. Heck, a lot of teenagers find it boring.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I agree... but please don't put harry potter and twilight on one level here... >.<

by Anonymous 12 years ago

thank you, Harry Potter is WAYYYYYY better :)

My problem is twilight has subject matter for highschoolers, and a 3rd grade reading level. So its barely reading for a highschooler and younger than that shouldn't read it.

Harry Potter's actually really well written. It's interesting, and it reflects on mortality and love. It's not the subject matter that's important to how good a book is, it's the way it's written.

I'm not saying that twilight is on the same level as Harry Potter, I was just using two books that got kids reading, personally, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was the first chapter book I ever read all by myself.
