It's weird to think how people kept track of dates in B.C.E. Assumably, people wrote down the year on documents, but what did they write? Did they pick a random number, then count down the years from there just knowing when Jesus would die? And then they got to 0 and figured it would be a good time to start counting up?... amirite?

This doesn't make any sense. They didn't count the b.c. years the way we did. A lot of times they would say the X year of king Whatever. Once Jesus was born they started counting up saying this is the X year of our Lord Jesus.

wrong. A historian counted back to Jesus using the king dates and back from that using the same things. Funny thing is that Jesus was born from 4-6 BC due to a clerical error.

if they didnt write down the date we can figure it out by carbon dating and other methods and lolwut smilie to the rest

carbon dating is very inaccurate from what I can tell. Other types of dating are generally more accurate I don't know which one would be best but that's not how they get the dates anyway.

I just had one of those "wow I'm an idiot" moments ; )
